The title pretty much says what it is.

The details are that I have had it for about 5 months. It stopped working recently and now when I turn it on, all that happens is I can see a VERY dim purple dot when I look straight down the "barrel." It's not even powerful enough to show up on a piece of paper an inch away from the aperture in a dark room.

I have taken it apart and now have the diode, driver, and lens separate (but still assembled) from the pen housing.

Does anybody have any troubleshooting tips to help me try to get it to work again?

I think the diode is fried and text time try not to look at those thing directly since you never know. It might have been a lose connection and BAM your eye is fried. Just use a camera.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't sure if a fried diode would leave anything to see or not. I was hoping a twist of the pot or something simple like that would fix it. Bummer.

Anything worth salvaging in that situation?

I guess the lenses and maybe the host if you ever want to build your own. Idk about the driver.

Alright. I'll just throw it all in a baggie and see what comes of it. I'm far too poor to start buying bits and pieces and making my own builds, lol. Thanks for the help. :) +1

I mean like, REALLY poor, haha. I'm only 17 and lost my job the first week of summer, and blew all my savings trying to get my motorcycle running (A task which will be finished tomorrow by 1:00pm!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!). I don't see myself getting a new laser for at least a few months. It really depends on how long it takes me to find a new job and how long it takes me to build up my savings again.

EVENTUALLY, I will get a new 405, since I LOVE their color and they're relatively cheap. The one I had probably blew so soon because I always knew it had to be overspec. The beam was fairly visible in a dark room, and I could feel the heat from it when it was pointed on sensitive skin like inner elbow and on my face (with safety goggles on and eyes shut, of course).
