Nearly every camera has a mechanism to regulate exposure, often more than one (sensor sensitivity/iso, aperture, exposure time). Perhaps you cannot control it, but it's still there.

I found that if I use my thumb to cover up the main point where the laser is coming from then the glair problem stops.

Do the beams appear brighter if you do? In that case the camera is increasing sensitivity since the bright source is now missing.

A little yes, they do fade out towards the edge of the video though.

Works almost perfectly with my dads camera.

I got some awesome pictures and videos, only problem is I dont know where his cameras USB cable is and the normal ones don't work with it.
