Smile Where do you guys store your lasers?

Hi, I am a new member of the forum and have started a laser collection. I bought one of those 1.6w Thor M2 and it came with a nice metal case to store the laser , batteries, charger, glasses, and lens'. The only issue is, I have so many laser 301/303's (like 15 or so) and some cool silver hosted burning lasers from eBay(only about $10 each but they burn especially the red and violet) and I've been storing them in the bubble wrap they came with in the original packaging (bubble mailer) and I find it to be very messy and unappealing.

I've heard of people using cigar cases to store lasers but I'm not sure where to start, I guess I'll have to buy a Walmart makeup or art case and design my own foam to store my lasers in.

I haven't been able to find any source that can sell me those nice metallic cases you often receive with the high power eBay lasers such as the Thor M2's or Gatling style lasers. On laserpointerstore they have an option to add on a metallic case for $15 when you purchase a laser but I wish they sold the cases separate cause I'm looking at ordering more Thor lasers from wish and eBay but some do not come with cases.

Any suggestions? Tips?

There are already threads on this if you use the search button. Also, please make a post in the welcome section introducing yourself.

I personally use a pelican case which has useful pluck n pick foam, and is pretty airtight. I also have the box of poker set, which I padded with huddle wrap and foam.

There are cheaper options than pelican online though.

Ok I will and thank you I do like pelican cases I'll look more into that. I tried searching "storing lasers" "how to store lasers" but nothing really came up relevant to what I'm searching so. Also would you recommend the Thor Ultra 1.6w for my next laser?

I have so many different types of lasers, it all depends on what it is. I keep all of them out of the air and boxed up until I need it. You want to keep them in some sort of airtight container as dust will settle on the optics if you don't. It is far easier to keep debris off your lasers than to try to remove it later.

I keep my dpss’s in an airtight container. Diode lasers for the most part don’t require as much care.

The Thor will likely be near specifications, but the build quality will still not be good as it is a mass produced Chinese laser. It is a cheap clone of a jetlasers PLE-Pro.

If you want high quality go with sanwu or jetlasers.

I actually think LPS sells and manufactures quality lasers but I've never owned a sanwu or JL so I wouldn't fully know how high quality they can get. My Thor M2 has the glass lens and has been great. I will definitely getting a pocket LPM, Thor H2 and Ultra soon.

LPS doesn’t manufacture their lasers, they’re a reseller.

Sanwus and jetlasers are MUCH better imo. Although LPS is trustworthy, their lasers aren’t the highest quality.

I’m not sure I would get a pocket lpm... in past threads they’ve been shown to be inaccurate. I’m not sure if LPS has improved it as they said they would.

Oh wow I thought they were the makers of the Thor series, oh well. They still do have pretty decent lasers IMO.

I was unaware that the pocket LPM is inaccurate wow I was close to ordering one too, what LPM would you suggest? I saw Laserbee carries some for reasonable prices. Looking to spend under $150.

The Nd:YVO4 and KTP crystals in most 532nm DPSS lasers are not hygroscopic, so the desiccants are overkill for them. There are some crystals that are hygroscopic, but these are fairly rare.

My belief that it is inaccurate is based of this thread:

https://laserpointerforums.com/f52/r...ps-101715.html

This is the most recent testing thread of it that I could find. LPS claimed to have updated their design, but I haven’t found any reliable testing of the new version yet.

I haven’t owned a lpm yet, but based on what I’ve read on the forum you should go with a laserbee or Hyperion lpm, unless you want to spend lots of $ for one from a professional company like coherent.

Astralist (the seller of Hyperion LPMs) has a sale thread, use the search bar to find it. Laserbee has a website.

Thanks for the correction Paul.

Default Re: Where do you guys store your lasers?

Lately I haven't had enough case space. Kinda gave up and dedicated shelves... Now two of my shelves have everything but the argon. That and the 509nm, that seems to have gone missing... Arguably wouldn't be so if I had spare cases. I'd be interested as well if anyone has suggestions to (large) cases... Collection grew a bit fast this time around. Here's some nightmare fuel for some of you

As it turns out, dust settles on lenses pretty fast. I've gotten pretty decent at gently cleaning them as of late with a microfiber cloth via wooden toothpick after using bike tire pump w/small nozzle to blow out as much as possible. I've ruined a lens trying with compressed air in a can, and trying without any at all. Ultimately I'm keeping as many lasers as I can upside down.

Coming from me, a case is worth it. Maintenance is a pain.

How well does the toothpick/microfiber cloth cleaning method work for you?

Get one of these cheapo handgun cases. They're hard (enough) plas-tech engineered and phome(R) lined to keep everything in place when closed.

•Leadlight laser pen “Super Pointer” lost its Mitsubishi ML101U29 diode suddenly during EDC selection. Super Pointer is expected to survive. However, it’s beloved Diode is now in photon heaven.

I use an old steelcase file cabinet, it's fireproof so I keep my batteries in there too.
