Hi, Just wanted to know what is the most powerful diode that can be put in a handheld host right now.
I think it is NUBM44? it can reach 7-8w, but I heard of some new diode that can reach 10w, from Nichia as well.
Thank you.

I doubt it. The NUBM44 is still the one that can output up to 7 watts and generates so much heat.

I remember there being a craze not long ago on the forum where a new diode appeared and people were trying to get it in bulk since the company only offered it that way and didn't give individual diodes.
Not sure where the thread is, not sure how it ended.

Would also love to know what is the limiting factor when it comes to how much power the diode can output.
Thanks for the fast reply.

I remember that. I'm pretty sure you're talking about the thread of the NUBM47A-1. I think it was agreed to basically just be a relabeled 44. Or at least an extremely similar diode. The 44 can be pushed to 7W safely I'd think.

That would be the NUBM08 or NUBM47A-1 which was quite a disappointment. The NUBM44 is still king. Well, most powerful PUBLICLY available visible diode. I'm sure private investors at nichia or osram posses something better.

Interesting, hopefully something powerful comes soon.

Depends on if they find a huge market for it and if it is available at the consumer level. If it exists at all.
