Thats a good laser (I have the same build in a lower power, but haven't used it yet since my safety glasses STILL haven't arrived). 2+ Watts a VERY high power though, especially for a first laser.

A 500 mw purple will be about the same price, a little bit safer, and will have plenty (although not quite as much) burning capabilities. It also will have a smaller (but much less visible) beam and can burn even white objects due to fluorescence. You may have to pm him for a quote, as it is not sold through his site - or you can look for other builds in the B/S/T section.
Think on colour first how visible is it .a 500mW violet is very dull brightness if you could call it that, compared to a blue compared a red then green you actually want to see it .Then think about power i would get a blue first then violet, red then green for burning .If your going to collect one of each colour like most of us on the forum start with a green then blue, red,Violet. Visual is most important 95% of the time ,you burn stuff but only a small % of the time you use your laser.

Yep, I will probably buy one and be hooked and want one of every color. I have a red Infiniter that I acquired in the early '90's when I was a Medical Examiner. Paid a shit load for it. Always have wanted a burning one. Next I will want a tank of sharks. Lol
