So - I bought one for grins and pennies on Fleabay....Anyone know where I can get an inexpensive sensor head for it ? :) I dunno if it works or not, but it does power on....fingured it is worth one more shot in the dark !! Not portable, really - but will make a nice addition to my experimentors' bench !

What model did you get? There are two main classes of heads, which are compatible with two different classes of power meters. Maybe you can find the head off eBay otherwise you will likely be payings $500 minimum for a head... more than likely, a lot more than $500.

It is a Coherent Radiation Power Meter Model 201
It has three analog dials on the front - (from left to right) AC-OFF-BATT on the first one, Zero adj on the second one, and range -1,3,10,30,100 on the other dial.

Any ideas about what kinda piece of junk I bought for $20.00 ? ;D I haven't googled it yet....

Oh, you bought one of the OLD ones (sorry, I now realize you said it in the title). I have no idea about those, sorry. They seem to have a lot of those ones on eBay.

I think you just need BNC terminated head, and the meter is relatively similar to a voltmeter. Coherent sells some pretty decent heads at really great prices when you get the OEM BNC heads. However... "really great prices" still means >$500 for Coherent, so I'm not sure you're interested in that. Perhaps one will show up on eBay with some searching? That sensor thing you e-mailed me about earlier may even be able to hook up to it, but I don't relaly know. Sorry.

Wow, I just got a head today that I got off eBay. It looked like a Coherent sensor, so I just went and took a chance and dropped $150 on it. First test.. plug into my Fieldmax II TO.. nothing! Next into the Coherent Ultima, sucess! It wasn't compatible with the good Fieldmax, and I have no idea if this Ultima is calibrated at all, so I can't trust the measurements, but its a decent head. The head may also be way out of calibration, but it requires liquid cooling that I don't have so I can't really test it out.. not to mention its intended for many-Watt lasers.

Still though, $150 was a bit of a risk but it seems I got a nice deal. The head is some version of an LM 200 HTD, which costs $1-2k from Coherent, and lets me see where on the sensor the beam is, which is pretty cool. Hopefully I'll get this up and working someday..

Looks like you can do okay off eBay with a little luck though. Perhaps one of the heads for your 201 will show up for auction soon.
