Our builds are generally continuous-wave, not pulsed. This simply means when you power up the laser, it continuously emits light until powered off, like a flashlight or torch. You could build a pulsed laser, perhaps someone else can help you if you wish to go in that direction.

it can be done with a simple 555 timer, if you posses the knoledge required to build it anyways.
