I have a BR laser. The diode is a PHR-803t.

I have done some reading on here and found that the ideal current is between 120-130mA.

My diode is currently running from a 9v battery, although it is an old battery now and is pushing out 7.7v. Using a test load I have seen that the diode is running on 170mA.
With a fresh battery (9v) it runs at 220mA.

I have heatsinked the length of the aixiz module, made from washers all pressed together and each washer has heat transfer compound between them so there are no gaps. With this heatsink I get a duty cycle of about 30 mins before it gets too warm with a new 9v battery.

With the older battery I get almost an hour of use before it gets too warm.

The laser has been fine for the past month and is still going strong.

I have no idea what mW it is giving out when it runs at 220mA.

Do I just happen to have a very very good diode or should I turn the current down a bit?
