Is the $5 glass aixiz lens worth the money?

These are non coated lens. They are merely glass lens not acrylic lens. I have some lens that are AR coated atm, but I cannot test them since I do not own a LPM, but the 405nm AR coated lens should give you around 25-28% increase. I'm not too sure about the Aixiz glass lens, check with jayrobs comparison test, it might be there!

So the AR seriously makes a difference? it seems like it would just absorb that extra energy into the glass, after all the main purpose of AR coating is to reduce glare on screens and stuff.
Thanks though!

Those are most definitely AR coated for red wavelengths.. They are MUCH superior to acrylic lenses when using red diodes, but they are no good for blu-rays. Definitely worth the money IMO. I use them frequently.

So, aixiz is selling glass lenses at Glass lens for AixiZ 12X30mm laser modules and cases - eBay (item 380173907882 end time Dec-02-09 06:46:09 PST) , and I was wondering if they are any good. I was planning to buy jayrob's lens later on, but for right now what can I expect to see as an improvement over acrylic?
Thanks

Yes, as EF said, but it is a 3 element AR coated lens assembly, and will only increase the red power by about 5%.

Virtual Village has an AR coated acrylic, single element lens that will give you a 10% increase for red.

Meredith glass is 20%...

AixiZ does have a 405 coated glass lens as well.

Both of the AixiZ glass lenses will give about a 5% increase in power vs AixiZ acrylic. (back opened)

The one you linked, is only for red. And their new 405 glass lens, is only for blu-ray.

I did a bunch of power comparisons shown here: (All of AixiZ' lenses, 405-G-1, Meredith (both of their glass lenses, AR coated acrylic from Virtual Village)
http://laserpointerforums.com/f49/power-comparisons-different-lenses-red-blu-ray-33965.html

P.S. Meredith has now sold out of their 'optimized for red' lens. (I bought their last ones today - bare lenses)

Have anyone tried to change the lens on the dilda? If we can get the dilda with glass lens for 30$+5$, it should mean we can get a 250mW+ laser for 35$!

I've had a few people get my Meredith custom mod for the new style dilda laser. (minimum 20% increase in power)

was that directed to me or about the ebay lens?

That was directed at whoever was wondering about what to use the Aixiz glass lens with..

Also, the virtual village AR lenses do give a better increase in power, but glass always wins in terms of beam quality, especially in the far field.

Where can you find a $30 dilda besides DX? Can we have some links? not just for this but for everything, I can't find the virtual village lens. But thanks guys, this is really helpful.

These are the 3 lenses in the Aixiz assembly for $7.50:
glasslens1.jpg

The plano-convex lens on the right has the most curvature (note yellow AR coating).
The only problem is that two different AR coatings have been used on this lens assembly.

The first type has a blue tint & is AR coated for Red lasers.

I bought many of the second type, which has a yellow broader-band AR coating which works for Red and improves BR by about 4%.

RA Pierce also noticed this yellow/amber coating in this post:
