Aixiz Glass Lens Disassembled

I have been replacing lenses in the Aixiz glass lens for a few months now.
Here is a picture of the stock original glass lens assembly disassembled in original order:

glasslens1.jpg

The plano-convex lens on the right has the most curvature (note new yellow AR coating).
The plano (flat) side faces the laser diode.

The center concave-convex lens had a negative F.L.

This is the assembly before several modifications to mount the single new aspherical 405/445nm Hi-Power lens.

You power-hungry types...
are going to love this new modified Hi-Power lens for BluRay, Greenies and Reds.

Hey Larry...
I'm a bit confused... Have you made changes to your
original lens assembly... or is it the same as I have...
Are you now using the Plano-Convex lens...

Jerry;

It shows all the original components of the Aixiz glass lens.

I mentioned it for Danjoo when he was trying to mount some new bare lenses.

The new Hi-Power lens assembly you just purchased,

has all 3 lenses replaced by the single new Short Focal Length, A.R., Aspheric glass lens.

I have beam shots @ 14 ft. in my "for sale link" below.

Could you measure the focal lengths and/or refractive index and/or dispersion of the lenses?

The focal length can be measured by shining a flashlight at it along a ruler to find the distance which gives the tightest spot. The refractive index is a bit trickier to find, but the dispersion of the lens can be found by shining a 405nm blu-ray laser and a 660nm red laser through the lens at the same distance, to see the difference in the size of the blob that ends up on the wall.

suiraM;

I did some previous measurements on the lens focal lengths:

The plano-convex lens on the far right had a focal length of ~ 0.5".

The center concave-convex lens had a negative F.L.

The plano-convex lens on the far left had a focal length of ~ 0.75".

The optical coating had a slight yellow tint;
not the blue tint reported by other people on their Aixiz glass lenses.

I suppose the AR coating on these is a layer of MgF2, optimized thickness for red. This is the same stuff used for non-glare picture frames and glasses - it isnt very visible while dielectric coatings usually shine bright in some color (depending on angle).

Benm;

I'm certain it is a MgF coating...

It has a amber/yellow tint ...

optimized for a specific wavelength.

RA Pierce recently noticed several different color coatings on this lens set:

I noticed something odd today...
I took out a few Aixiz glass lenses while I was organizing and noticed that one of the glass lenses for RED had a different tint to the coating on one of the lenses. I thought it might have been the lighting, but the coating was definitely more orange/amber, much like the coatings on the optics in a blu-ray sled, rather than the bluish tint on optics coated for red wavelengths. I tested this lens on a PHR and got interesting results:
Un-coated Aixiz Acrylic: 118mW
650nm coated Aixiz glass: 110mW
???nm coated Aixiz glass: 124mW

This lens (it either came with one of my Aixiz modules or on the new style Dilda from O-like) gave me a slight power increase over regular acrylics AND over 650nm coated glass although this lens was intended for use with red lasers.

Maybe it was just an error on the manufacturers part, but I don't really mind.
it makes me wonder if I'm the only one that got a lens like this...

RA got a 5% increase on his BR diode.

I checked my stock and they also have the "yellow AR coating".

That explains the slight increase in power I've also seen with BR diodes.

I just took my aixiz lens apart and it has only Two lenses. It came from my dilda laser I bought from bestofferbuy.com

It was rather easy to unscrew... Your lens would just fit right inside?

Crazy Jay;

I have not seen one with two lenses ...

but it is probably another cost-saving design change.

The inner diameter should still be the same to fit the bare lens.

P.S. Arenared- My green adjustable has become unstable in power, so I have not been able to get reliable power increase readings.

Thanks for the reply Larry. Won't the lens be too thin by itself in the Aixiz casing?

Crazy Jay;

They use a spacer in the lens with 3 elements.

So, it would only have to be a little thicker.

Hey Larry, I think I'd rather buy your whole assembly. Give me about 2 1/2 weeks. Yeah, I got a weird Aixiz lens. Probably what you said.. production cost.

Crazy Jay;

The Hi-Power lens dimensions are in the link in my signature.

You need an inner diameter of 0.25" for the lens ...
and a seat to mount it against.

With the brass assembly, you will have the tighter threads for focusing.

I want to flip all lenses to make lenses closer to the diode.
This is important for my IR build.

Before I opened lens assembly I didn't know that there are 3 lenses.
So I mixed all lenses and I don't know in what order should I put them back.

Can someone give me instructions to put back all lenses in correct order?
