I am looking to buy 5mm leds the clear kind, In red, green, blue, and white.
also not looking for wide angle something around 15 deg would be best, but will take most.
I am wanting to buy them it at least 100 at a time.
I have searched and bought some threw eBay but it is a hassle to get them.
If you got any large number of leds please post them of your favorite supplier.

another good suplier $0.0208/pcs(include shipping )
If we buy 10000pcs of each color it would be $0.019/pcs(include shipping )

DealExtreme has them for cheap and in bulk (buy using the bulk rate for larger quantities). That's where I've gotten them, and they're nice and bright--and cheap! Just be prepared for long shipping times, but that's what you expect from DX anyway.

Barring that, you can buy them in quantity from Digikey and Mouser as well.

^ 100 leds for $3.00 is not that great of a deal that's about 0.03 per led.
I am hoping to buy them in large amounts maybe get several people and get them at about 0.008-0.01
at this moment i can get leds at around 0.021 per led but one large scale i would like to get them cheaper, this may mean a group buy to get about 10,000 of each color. would anyone want to go in on a buy this large?
i have found 1000 leds for around 26-28$ but they said they would cut shipping and give discount if bought in large amounts. So if this interests you please post how many you may want and we can get a quote of the order.

Sure, you can get far lower per-LED prices, but from your OP you mentioned only buying in 100-LED quantities, which is not considered large, and where $0.03/LED is pretty respectable; even your $26/$28 per 1000 is roughly at that ratio. If you want to buy in quantity with others, maybe move your request to the GB section?

Yes i will post one there too once a few suppliers get back to me, is any one in the forum wanting large amount of leds or am i the only one?
Large around 1,000 leds per person can be a combination of colors
250 blue
250 red
250 green
250 white
if i get the rate i want it would be about 15$ for 1,000 leds
i would like to place a 10,000 bulk order.

I may be in for 500-1000 depending on how it goes. But beware of cheap LEDs, they can have a very short life. I recommend getting samples and let them 'burn' for a week at 20mA to see if they fade.

i will ask for a sample, and see how it goes they all "Say 10,000 hours" but we know its not true all the time. so i hope to get good leds.
Wow we are around 5000-6000 leds this is going faster than planned the more we order the more break we should get so if we order more than 10,000 the better our price will be.

Don't ask for "a" sample, you need at least two of each type.

See how bad some are (skip to 3:35):

my sample i was planning was 10 of each they will then be put to a bread board and burned for as long as you want me to burn them. or until they die.
But i fear they might send me good ones then send me crap but what you going to do.

It would be foolish not to request samples and just buy 10K pcs. No one wants to install 1000 LEDs in their project only to have then dead after a few months or even weeks. Sure they may give ones good as samples but it is still better than not trying. I don't mind doing the testing if you don't want to.

Speaking of which, I should test the ones I got from DX. See if you can get the ones with the thicker leads (breadboard kinds). Hell, just looking at one of them, it looks like even the wire has begun to oxidize.

maybe even see if they are willing to give a warranty so that if they start failing we can send them back, but that would be very doubt full. 10-20 failing i would be fine with but if 100 or 1% of them were failing i would want to send them back 1 percent sounds small but it would suck for someone to get stuck with 90-100 leds and not meet the return policy.

I'd advise extreme caution when going for very cheap leds.

Especially in the standard 5mm kind there is lots of crap on the market. Samples are hard to trust too, since they can be cherry picked even if you get 10 pieces or more.

I don't know what you are planning on doing with this many leds, but if its for illumination i'd seriously consider using power leds (1/3/5 watts or even more) from reputable sources rather than rigging shitloads of 5 mm leds.
