Hehe, usually they use 100mW IR pump diodes to get 5mW of green.kcomptonjr said:yeah, no. you really should not mod a laser... the good ones that run you about 600 usd + are not modable. i got a descent 100mw laser, that is pot modable, but hell, i spent my moneys worth on it, and i dont need to pot mod it Basically what im saying is that if you dont spend the money on your laser, then u wont get what you want!
sorry.
now, i suppose that you "can" pot mod your laser, but if its a cheap laser to begin with it technically already is pot moded. u see, in the cheap lasers, they put cheap pump diodes, that max out at 5mW or what ever. then when you go to turn it to get more power, you crack the crystal, or just kill your pump diode. and, if you have a green laser (common) or any other color, other than red, ur producing a shit load of IR. and, since its a cheap laser, there is no IR filter, so you look down the tube (dummy) and dont think that anything is coming out, but in fact, ur blinding yourself with over 5 mW of IR.......
so, to answer your question, go spend at least $100 usd, or dont get into our hobby!
