Ok you're walking down the street and you see fred phelps leading a protest against a soldiers funeral with the rest of the westboro baptist church (the "god hates fags" people). You have a high power laser with you. You can shine it at them and you wont get in trouble.
Do you do it?
How about attaching a high power laser to the rifle thus getting to blind them and then shoot them!!
I don't know, but I'm watching a story on the Science Channel right now about the guy that introduced killer bees to the Americas.
Killer bees! Thats the ticket!
Anyone want to help train killer bees to be lured to 980nm?
What xoul said is true though. The WBC only has something like 75 members but everyone knows who they are because even bad publicity is publicity. Best not to give them the time of day. But that doesn't chance the fact that they're scum bags.
This is an absolutely appalling, and utterly useless thread.
If you disagree with someone's views, inhuman as you may think those beliefs to be, do you adopt violence as a means of voicing your dissent?
This is not a hypothetical about lasers, it's a hypothetical about the ethics surrounding violence, period. It's ethically no different than asking the same question, but while replacing the high powered laser with "tossing a glass bottle into the crowd", or "throwing a stone".
It's a dumb hypo, and a dumb conversation. What kind of answers do we seriously expect to such a question? You're asking "would you harm someone you disagreed with, if you wouldn't get caught?". If you're the type of person that responds to views you disagree with using violence, then so be it, but that has nothing to do with lasers, and everything to do with your own lack of human evolution.
This is absolutely the type of thread that should be locked and deleted from this site - for everyone's good.
