If you anodize it, make sure its in a color that results in good IR emissivity. Blackbody radation is a minor component of heastink performance in these (convection is the main), but all bits help.

I love the simplicity of the design. For a cost effective build that protects the module, holds batteries, and switches a connection, I say it's perfect. Its about time one of these was made. Nice Job! As far as suggestions go, I have to say, the only thing that I might enjoy to see is the expanded abilities for customization. The O-rings are a good idea, but the anodizing would look sick... I hope these will allow for longer duty cycles!

Wow that is a significant improvement indeed! I see you already sold one at only a day after the post. I'm sure they'll sell fast.

I've done this before

My vote stands to a recessed clickie, same-diameter fins, BUT personally, I really don't like the spirals - what about doung a series of circular grooves and O-rings, a-la Harley Davidson footpegs?

Picture the host with those in the grip, the heatsink fins, and a recessed clickie - a very timeless, masculine look and you could do purple O-rings for BR, red for LOC, green for green, etc at under $1 per host if someone wanted a custom set, etc...

BTW, the O-rings don't slip if you were wondering - if they can hold up through rain, etc with a 300lb bikers foot coming on and off the shifter, brake, etc they will definitely stand up to a laserists grip, IMHO

I made some foot pegs pretty much like thoes back in 1986 for my 750 kowi on an old Monarch lathe. that gives me an idea I just ordered a new lathe maby I'll try and reproduce this designe on a host. I realy like your idea of diff colored "O" rings to id what's under the hood ! now if I can just get that on/off button up front.

Best Regards Pyro... :eg:

only problem is i am selling them VERY close to cost, almost at a loss...they ended up costing me $30 each to have made, after the switch, batteries and postage, and PP fees it leaves about nothing left over...
i've got to find a way to get the cost down!

i would like to get the cost down to around $20 or less to produce.

Recessed tail switch
Adaptor for focusing

I do not like the horizontal lines idea, they'd look just like a Kryton, go for something original and creative. The spiral thing was good, it just needs to be in just one part of the laser, maybe the "grip"

If you could make the fins spiralled, THAT would be original!

the next batch i am going to try Brew's idea of the rubber o-rings that extend down the grip of it......
I'll order some red, blue, green and black o-rings when i am ready to make some more hosts.

I think if the "threads" of the spiral were much thinner and shallower it will look a bit better...
Def make 1-2 more find and make them smaller. Also make sure they are rounded off a bit, i hate when corners are sharp.

Also maybe something unique like the "pork-killer" grip, perhaps a bit less medieval.

Oh yeah, add a couple "accent" rings around the head, and maybe mushroom the tailcap a little.

What about making a waterproof design? You'd be the first member to sell custom machined waterproof hosts.
