Re: 445nm "sled" pics

SCHWEET!

I'll trade you straight across for the 18650 kit with copper heatsink in return for a diode with stock lens. :)

And if you want a 'Hot' option, then you can pay extra for that...

Re: 445nm "sled" pics

Its all packed up and ready to go for tomorrow. I really, i mean REALLY, hope that the stock lens is good for correcting the beam a little better.

Also as a side note , i noticed that it also flouresces GITD stuff ;)

So jayrob, you are modifying the stock lens once it arrives to you right? :D

Re: 445nm "sled" pics

A thought just occurs to me regarding our new playmate. All those who are going for them and have been using good sunglasses, (for low power), or narrow band googles for 405nm are going to need to invest in new eye wear.

Do all current suppliers of goggles provide suitable protection for this wavelength? (I'm thinking they all will but it's a consideration.)

My own goggles protect from 400-600nm so I won't have to reinvest.

Yeah, it'll be fine finding goggles for this wavelength. Most blue goggles should work flawlessly.

These diodes are looking fantastic, can't wait for the group buy to get posted out.

Absolutely...

For me, the first order of business will be to experiment with lenses.

I know that there will be much information in the coming days with current and power testing, so I plan on just setting my driver to 475mA's, and testing different lenses.

Can't wait to see how that stock lens compares to a 405-G-1 with this diode...

Re: 445nm "sled" pics

Anyone have info about whether the stock lens is glass or not? Im thinking maybe glass to last thru the long expected lifetime or maybe acrylic because they are being underdriven???

Is stock lens degradation a factor like it is with BRs??

Would there be advantages to using the $10 AixiZ glass made for 405nm?

Duty/rest cycling for labby and handheld versions??

thanks for the help---HAK

Re: 445nm "sled" pics

From the pictures it looks like definitely glass...

I have the AixiZ 405 lens too. So I will be comparing what will work best! :)

Re: 445nm "sled" pics

could this mean high-end lenses for blue for much cheaper than the current glass lenses for red and BR? I want a nice lens, but I don't have $50 to spend on one. If someone charged like $40 for the diode and $10 for the lens in an aixiz module lens thing they could make a very healthy profit taking apart the projector.

Yes the lenses are AR coated glass, and your existing BR glasses will work for this wavelength. I use my yellow glasses from Scopeguy.

Mario's class IV 445nm Kryton + projector pics

These diodes are even better than I think anyone could hope - in my spasm of dissasembling today I punched out the old dying SF-AW diode in my kryton and installed some 445nm goodness.

The diode collimates well with just a crappy aixiz acrylic lens (it's all I have atm)

Stats:

Diode current - 750mA
Output after lens - 650mW
Driver - Flexdrive v5

Unfortunately I was only able to get two pictures outside before it started raining, plus I melted three DX tailcap clicky switches from the current draw :gun:

Anyone recommend a place to get clickies that can handle ~1.5 amps?
