Welcome to 21st century helicopter parenting. The kid had 0 access to a firearm and was really a sweet kid. Schools have a 0 tolerance policy towards threats of violence especially with weapons.

The word "retard" is a lot more insulting than a simple "dumb" or "stupid". It's like promiscuous vs a whore. And I know some people with retarded (used here appropriately) children will get very offended & hurt when people use that word to call someone or something stupid/dumb.

But I have to say... there is some truth in the usage here. Dominic does seem to project himself as a dimwit, whether it be on purpose or not, I don't know. But still quite rude to use it nevertheless, the word makes me cringe a little.
