Hey everyone, just joined the forum yesterday and already made a post when someone suggested to me that I post here also. I'm studying here at a university in Germany for the semester but I'm from the USA originally. I've always been into electronics, though self taught, it seems to get me by. Lasers have always been extremely interesting to me but until just a few days ago, after a few weeks of researching here in the forums, I decided to start into it by buying some stuff from various website and people that were reputable amongst those here. I'll definitely be back for more help when the time comes and I return home to America with a pile of packages waiting for me to dive into to!
I've read many of the generic beginner 'new guy' threads about getting started like discharging the cap on the driver before connecting the LD so it doesn't destroy it, proper use of heatsinks so it ALSO doesn't fry the thing and the correct use of eye pro for specific wavelengths.
If anyone has any other very important tips to mention about how to not screw things up before i start on my very first homemade laser project, I would be VERY appreciative! There is a ton of info out there for me to read and i'm trying to get around to it all.
This is a cool forum and thanks for the help some of you have already given me.
