Why don't you just send them an AixiZ nut so they can see it?

Hehe, i actually thought of that.

The AixiZ lens nut is not enough tho. The depth the lens has to go into the module, has to be figured out. And there are variances in this, because some people only push the diode in the module untill it's flush, while it should actually be a little deeper. So there has to be a safety margin. The difference is small, but i noticed the thick AixiZ focusing rings don't work with blu rays, if the diode is not pushed into the module completelly (if it's only flush)...

We want the lens to be deep enough, and still have enough of the focusing nut outside, for the ring to fit. And then, there are different rings. It has to work with the thickest one.

I have never noticed or even considered that a diode could be pressed farther into an AixiZ module :-/

Definitely something to try with the next one.

Nor I. I am curious if my barrels have the need to have the diode pressed in further....

By the way, you didn't add my name to the 650nM lens list.

Don't worry.. I usually wait for several orders to appear, then i put them all on the list and so on, instead of doing them one by one. It's more efficient this way. There are several names i still have to add..

Otherwise, the hardest part of all the work is making all the lasers, to pay for all the lenses.
If the first lens had a better beam profile, it would be over by now.. :(

But one of the aspherics is MUCH better - no distortions around the beam! So we will have to use an aspheric lens. At the beginning, i did not believe, we could even afford them. Luckily, the different manufacturing process means it will not cost more than a spherical lens, polished from glass.

I didn't notice that for a long time either. But then i found some modules, that allowed the diode in too easily, and i noticed it went in deeper..

After that, i stopped using the back of an AixiZ module, to push the diodes in, and made a specialised tool for it instead. Now i can get all diodes in completelly. The angled edge around the diode hole has to have the deeper edge flush with the bottom of the diode. Once you see it, you will know what i mean..

Before i noticed this, the thicker focusing rings didn't allow the lens in deep enough for a parallel beam. After this, there is now room to spare, and i can now actually bring the lens too deep, for a diverging beam..

Oh, another thing i noticed with the ever changing DX modules is, that there is one focusing ring model, that has a too narrow opening for the wide blu ray beams! It didn't noticably obstruct any light, but when i put another ring on, the power actually went up by 2-3mW! It's not much, but it's enough, to bother me. They should be drilled open, just like the back plates..

well, I just verified with my barrel that you DO indeed need to push the diode in further than just flush.

I make my own insertion and extraction tools. I just need a lens. I am confused with all the posts.

In that case, i'm guessing it was designed after the AixiZ module...

Pushing it in completelly, definitelly make extra sure it is straight, and not at an angle.

Sorry Mike.. :)

It's about the lens nuts.. With the first lens, i was barelly able to get it in deep enough, because of it's very short FL.. But with diodes, which i pushed in completelly, so they were under flush, this problem was gone... It's a tiny difference, half a millimeter or less, but it matters.

Obviously, not everyone get's the diodes in completelly. Especially, if they use the back of an AixiZ module for mounting... This means the lens has to sit in the lens nut at the perfect depth, so that it can accept a focusing ring at the top, and still go in deep enough.

If this should turn out to be a problem, we will need custom lens nuts too.

I need to measure the exact depth required for a parallel beam with a diode, that is flush, and a diode, that is in completelly, so that the lens works in both cases.

good ideas Igor. I believe pretty much everyone uses the back of an Aixiz module to press in diodes... so this would be a problem when the diode is flush.

thanks for your hard work, hope it works out to go ahead with the GB!

Well, at the moment i am not worried about the lenses anymore, because at least one of the lenses works very good in terms of beam profile.

But this one was just a sample, so it's not coated. This is the main reason, i would like to wait for the last sample. That one is going to be coated, has similar properties, but a slightly lower transmittance glass, so it would be possible to draw some usefull conclusions from it.

Il take one the 405nm and one for 605nm. Thanks for all the effort you are putting in to this!

Well, I've run into an issue and I'm sure it's something that is going to affect this GB as well if you plan on using Aixiz for the source of lens nuts. I placed my order for lenses some time ago and just now got notified that they don't have enough in stock to fill my order and will be 3-4 WEEKS till they have more.

Hmm, i didn't even get an answer from them..

Could you perhaps PM me the email of your contact?
The last time i ordered something from them, and kept asking about the status once per week, the package actually arrived before the answer. In fact, the answer still didn't arrive.

One month.. :( The prospect of custom lens nuts is becoming more and more appealing.
It would definitelly be much easier....
