IgorT is working diligently to get the lasers done and shipped so he can begin to focus on this. Don't expect much happening here until you hear lots of people shouting with joy in his laser sale thread. I also think he will start a new thread when he is ready. This one is filled with lots of invalid information.

Peace,
dave

I can imagine this on a over powered 6x at 240mw w/o lens then with this it would be about 300 mw!!!

Well lets see.

power increased 25 percent on a 6x diode so.

240mw without lens.

25 percent of 240mw is 60 so 240 plus 60 = 300mw.

I do think so.

I doubt a 6x diode will survive at 240mW long enough for you to meter it ::)

BTW, it doesn't increase the power, it passes more light through.
If it is 240mW without the lens, then it will be more like 230mW with the lens...
It is a 25% increase from an acrylic lens.
Duh...

If it is 300mW without the lens, it will be 240mW with the lens.

Milos is doing some work up around 250mA.  He's getting >300mW before optics.

We'll see where it takes us next.

Definitely a 6X can do 300mW's with one of these lenses that Igor will be getting...

But in line with what Spyder was saying, just how long it could last at that power is yet to be determined.

I have noticed huge differences in the efficiency (mA vs mW) range of the 6X diodes that I have tried so far. It seems like the norm is about 180mW's @ 190mA's using an AixiZ acrylic. But I have had at least 3 that give much more power at that current range. The highest efficiency one that I have found is in one of my Key Chain lasers. It is putting out 215mWs @ only 183mA's through an AixiZ acrylic!

The guy that makes sting-ray lasers put a 6x up to some-where around 420ma or somthing I don't remember but it was way over 200ma.

So I think these hardcore diodes could handle 240mw.

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

They certainly can handle 240mAa. Question is at what cost, ( if any!)  I have one running at 230mA outputting 255mW. (330mW without lens)  Its been tested for over 9 hours of ON time. Including 30min, 60min and 120min  ON cycles.

I posted about it in BR forum section, but  some people decided to rather argue with each other than to contribute to tests and share. There are updated test info at le forum.  In any case, testing continues, and i will be putting more diodes to 230mA and monitor their operation. My goal is to find out if we are possibly wasting its potential. Its important to do as much test with 6x specially as Igor is so busy, and not just wait for him to invest his $ to investigate try and tell us what's ok.

Igor's lens is very important project for all of us, not only because of up to 25% better transmission, but because of better beam quality than crappy acrylic lens.

best regards

Hey leon...

you're still missing the point with your (faulty) calculations...... :-?

If a laser is outputting 240mW without a lens.... there is NO WAY the laser
will output 300mW with a lens..... Any lens... even IgorT's lenses...

IgorT's lenses will be an improvement of XX% over the acrylic lenses and that will only
increase the "After Lens" output compared to the acrylic lens...

You will need to read more of the posts on this thread to understand the increase in power
of a laser after different types of lenses...

255mW! 120 min. on time!

Is that with AixiZ acrylic Miloš? That's a nice diode! I believe I have read in some of Igor's writings that at that kind of power or even less than that, the acrylic lens can even begin to get damaged...

Certainly that particular diode will be putting out over 300mW's with his glass lens! :)

yes, at 255mW after 10 hour of ON time is beginning to mess up acrylic lens. Its visible at distance. This is so far only degradation i noticed. None on diode itself !

cheers

Re: 405nm AR glass lenses - fit AixiZ  FEELER

I think it took IgorT something like 24hrs to melt a small hole in the acrylic. Ive been running my 6x's now at 190mA at most. At this current im seeing 200mW after the lens, the modules are mounted in a z-bolt heatsink and the unit gets pretty warm.

I put together a leadlight pen and am running it at 180mA, my next will be up around 210mA for my personal use pointer. My first 6x was running at 225mA in a DX labby heatsink, it lasted a while until I fed it over 270mA or so.....$375. Canadian later..... ::)

Theres a trick to the lenses when using 6x and axiz acrylics, which im sure has probably been figured out by a few... ;)
