Nice laser.
It looks like it is much like my own. How long will it hang above 700mW?

fubada and I have been discussing the #18650 battery requirements for 700 mw of green.

The IR diode requires a LOT of current for operation at this power level.

Low internal resistance is mandatory to deliver anything close to this power level.

Dr. Lava and I were measuring some batteries in this thread:

Battery internal resistance

Only the latest top of the line #18650 batteries,
can deliver this power continuously.

RA - Hangs above 700 for 10 seconds then drops to > 650 and stays there until I decide to shut it off usually around 60sec duty cycle. I'm afraid to push this any longer than ~60secs. Thanks.

How hot does the body get when doing these 60 cycle runs?

Nice crystal set you got there. Any idea on pump current? If it's under 3A you got a nice one!

Just measured IR current draw - 3.1A with Sanyo, 3.0A with Sony cells. Both are 2600mah 18650's purchased from Larry@LPF.

Is this a reasonable current draw?

@60seconds ON the host body/head are completely cool. No noticeable heat at all.

Thanks.

How's the mode structure look? Anything I've ever gotten that far over spec usually was running with a higher-order mode thrown in, upon closer inspection.

Solid tiny dot. TEM00. Mode shifts alot during the first 10 seconds then stable.

I'll take pics and measure divergence.

My PGL-III-C 400 does 650-690mW, and will do that for a full 60 seconds, TEMoo. However, it starts out at 20mW (!) and takes a full 5 minutes to get there.

Worries me a bit, the long warm up time actually.

But this is the same 'class' of overspec, give/take 50mW....

If you ever have to go out of town and need a laser sitter, I'm your man!

EDIT; Is this type of performance common for CNI?

Yes, it is. (Well, let's say there are more stories of CNI lasers being this overspec than any others. And CNI has a tendency to be overspec in general.)

Recently it seems Jetlasers isnt' that far behind; my "250" (I call it a 300, because it never goes below that) puts out 440.

Just measured the divergence for this laser at 1.2mrad.

here is the dot pic (using no flash, macro, zoom, grey background)

Fubada, can I ask what happened to your original PGL-III-C?

It was sent back to CNI due to low power and high TEM mode.
