What do you mean short the output leads before soldering it to your diode This is to drain the output filter capacitor This capacitor has the potential to be at whatever the voltage of the previous load was, or even as high as battery voltage! Chances are that it probably has very little charge...

Ok thanks tmack So I don't have to build one I can just link my diode to my driver. People say that if you don't test the output of the driver it will blow the diode and I don't want to waste a 60 dollar diode. Thanks william.
