Ordered 4Sevens Maelstrom G5

4SevensMaelstromG5.jpg
I think your really going to like this light when you get it. I learned the hard way not to buy it directly from 4sevens site though. As I paid $149 for the first one I bought, but then found out from a post on CPF a dealer was selling them for $109 Ouchh, so I got the next ones much cheaper.

Either way it is an awesome light, I have it clipped on the inside of my pocket, and since it rides so comfortably that I forget it's even there, I've made it my EDC light now.

IIRC the maelstrom also has two springs-one in back, one in front. Is this correct? If so, that would mean it should work as a weaponlight as well....

I got my light, Total: $107.95.

It's the V2 (Version 2). The difference is that in the 2 groups the light starts in max.

Actually, neither. Although I think the button on the tailcap is "springy". Picture by selfbuit:

Weird... guess I was totally wrong. Nevermind then, you probably shouldn't put it on a gun.

Version 2? I'm not sure, I don't think my lights are though. Other than trying the change groups and see if the max is in both, is it marked in any way? When did they change or release that? I'm on 4sevens mail list (have been for a long time) and they never bothered to let me know that; now that's NOT very good customer service.

I know on CPF there were several complaints about that, but 4sevens said no he wasn't going to change it, because it was designed for tactical users and that's the way they wanted it, and hobbyist users only counted for a small percentage.

I guess he either caved OR sales weren't really that great from tactical users as he alluded to and he made a strong case against making that change because of the tactical users.

So I can only conclude sales from the tactical users were dismal at best and he didn't want to admit that the hobbyist are his bread and butter, because he was pushing the G5 on CPF and many posted since you won't change it, then I vote with my wallet not to buy it, and he didn't seem to budge.

Still I would have thought the version to be V1 and with a change like that V1.01; version 2 is a big jump to me for such a minor firmware change and no others features were added?? I can't see the reason for a whole version number for such a minor change around............oh well.

To the person that asked about springs, I see the pics have been posted, so that should speak to that. It's suppose to be a captive system for the battery that doesn't rattle, and it doesn't; it's been fully tested on machine guns and on 4sevens they have pics of swat using it on their weapons.

So yes it's been designed from the ground up for weapons use, you should have no problems using it on your weapon if it can stand the beating from a machine gun.

Got my D10 yesterday... It's great, now I need some AW 14500s. It's such a solid little light, plus the switch system is very cool. It's got one of the most durable flashlight push button systems in the world, rivaled only by the ra/HDS clicky (neither have any mechanical parts that could break like a normal clickie). Plus, I got the historical ramping version :D

That looks great!
I'm thinking of swapping the XR-E in my D10 with an XP-G R4, but I'm having trouble finding the emitter mounted on an appropriately sized board... anyone know where I can get mounted LEDs?
