Great pictures!!!
How does the apparent brightness of 445nm @ 650mW compare to your 250mW Spyder I in person?

Very bright - it made a bright teal splash on the wall, heck it almost overpowered the green :gun:

The beam is visible even in fairly lit rooms and is very bright at night.

Hey Mario,

Have you tried mounting the OEM lens into the aixiz nut? From what i've been told they are 6.5mm as well?

On another note, I also have a kryton waiting, who would have thought that the click switches would be end up being the weak spot? Though 1.5A isn't much tbh...?

I will start hunting for a decent XA rated clicky switch of the same dimensions, will post, if anything comes up.

For sure I'll be sharing what I find...

As will many others will do the same in the next few days!

But SpyderFire's beam shot using my 405-G-1 glass lens looks pretty good at a 26% increase in power vs AixiZ acrylic!

This has to be the most epic event in the history of the hobby!

If those lenses are aspheric, they will only correct the shape at o and 180 degree turns. So that means you have a much less degree of freedom with distance from the diode unless you can rotate the lens without rotating the threaded lens holder.

I'm hoping the AixiZ 405 glass lens will do well with these diodes...

If those lenses are aspheric, they will only correct the shape at o and 180 degree turns. So that means you have a much less degree of freedom with distance from the diode unless you can rotate the lens without rotating the threaded lens holder.

The beam appears to be "usable" at "normal" hand-held laser pointer distances. If one is going to use it for "graphics" at longer distances, corrective optics will probably be needed. Experiments are ongoing

you are talking about cylindrical (toroidal) lenses.
aspherics, on the other hand, are no spheres, but irregularly formed. they still are rotational symmetric. an icycle (the pointy ice thingie hanging from roofs) is kinda an aspheric.

Yep, aspherics are still rotationally symmetric.

And if they weren't, then some clever engineering can be done to make a lens housing that can use the action of turning a nut to translate the position of the lens (thereby focusing the light) without actually rotating the lens. It's more expensive and complicated, but perfectly possible. Heck, it wouldn't be that hard to make it happen with an Aixiz housing: thread the outside, cut grooves on the inside for the lens to ride in, and have a nut that pushes the lens in but screws onto the outside of the Aixiz housing. This would be expensive by hobby standards, but not that expensive in the overal shceme of things.

Yeah a few on PL had access to them before the news got out and some paid $500 for the ones on ebay but I think I'm the first one on LPF to have a working 445nm Edit- nope, close though
