His point stands though, if no one can offer a solid alternative to bringing back the old system, then how can we proceed? Never mind the fact that the winning vote is for bringing back the old system.

Here's how it works:

John, Peter and Bob are all running for President.

John gets 7 votes.
Peter gets 7 votes.
Bob gets 14 votes.

Bob wins - John and Peter's fans may not like that, but that's how voting works. You can't complain because half the people didn't want Bob for President, because only 1/4 of the people wanted Peter and only 1/4 of the people wanted John while half the people wanted Bob.

I can see his way of thinking, what does that make me? edit again... arg... Actually, I can see both ways of looking at it and accept both as valid concepts, they don't necessarily have to agree with one another to have an amount of value for consideration.

Thanks for proving my point that people use neg rep as a weapon just because you disagree with me you automatically call me a troll and give me a neg rep. You know what, I can understand why people don't like the rep system. It's a discussion, so I don't understand why you are neg repping. It's a thread which people suggest and just because you disagree with someone means that I am trolling you and not putting anything forward. This is the reason why the drama occurred, and will continue because the rep system EXISTS.

I DON'T LIKE THE REP SYSTEM BECAUSE IT CAUSES DRAMA AND DOES NOT FULFIL ITS ORIGINAL PURPOSE. THEREFORE IF IT CAUSES MORE HARM THAN GOOD YOU SHOULD REMOVE IT TO GET RID OF THIS STUPID DRAMA.

You didn't even see my comment on switching my vote to removing the rep system because of reasons such as this.

Nothing perfect about the old system, nothing will be perfect about a new system, for some removing the system isn't a good answer either.

I voted to remove it, but at the same time I think it's nice to have, but would change my vote to keep it if the number of points any one member can take away from another member is limited to no more than one point per occurrence.

There could also be limits to the number of neg's someone can give over a period of time, as well as forbidding the repping of any members posts either positive or negative which are over 45 days old, but I don't think the forum software settings can do that.

They were previously 10 and 20.

They are currently at 5 and 50.

Ahh yes, I like that idea, an expiry of sorts on posts that prevents you repping them if they are too old. :topic:

Edit: guess it can't be done ...

Perhaps keep the Daily Reputation Clicks Limit and reduce the Reputation User Spread Limit to 25?

It's really the ratio between those two numbers that matters. With 10 at 20 it's 2, meaning you can potentially hit the same person again within 2 days. With the new one it's 10, meaning it would take 10 days to re-rep the same person.

You want that number to be high enough so that people can't just be negged over and over. Without making it so you are prevented from using rep on deserving posts.

What about making it 50 and 500, ratio is still 10, meaning the same person can't be hit again for 10 days, but won't have the problem of only being able to use 5 per day.





Honestly I think in the long run, getting rid of the whole rep system would make for the most stable environment, but that could be a compromise.

I actually tried to answer the question, I just had to make it clearer for you because apparently you are not able to pick out points from a post. I am also not the one who is causing the most drama, you are by picking apart publicly, using gifs to get a point across and kept asking me questions when I should be asking you questions.

Why do you want the old system so badly, what do you propose as a solution to this drama other than reverting to the old system.

Of course I want to reduce the drama, but people like you intentionally try to provoke people on this forums to try to gauge a reaction. So far, I have been polite towards you but all I feel from you is HOSTILITY. Your neg rep was automatic, because this is a discussion and just because YOU don't see my points but others may do; does not give you permission to neg rep people considering that neg rep system has a different use than the one you think it is. Continue to attack me, because you trying to effectively call me an idiot because I want to remove the system just shows how this drama is caused by members who try to get a reaction by others.

The way you're reacting is the perfect example of why any system will be a problem. That said I still prefer some form of feedback system over none.

Well for that we could just give people a label under their name. For people that have successful, trades, sales, etc. Instead of "Class ** Laser", a "Trusted Seller/Buyer" sticker.

Would be a lot more useful actually since lots of reps are for posts in LPF's religion or the gif thread or something off topic that doesn't say anything at all in terms of feedback.

Incorrect, refer to the post where I give you my answer on how the rep system should be handled, by agreeing with Pi's suggestion then I switch my view on removing the system entirely. Speaks for itself doesn't it?
