The GB has been closed due to lack of interest. DTR has these diodes now if you want to buy them. All ROUND 1 participants will still receive their diodes.

Hello again everyone. I have found a source of the PL TB450B, all for the low low price of $37
apiece. These are brand new diodes. If you don't already know, here are some specs on them.

  • TO56 Package (5.6mm)
  • 1.6W Nominal (Pushed to over 2.5W by mhemling33)
  • 450nm Center Wavelength
  • 1.4 - 1.6A (Can be pushed higher)
  • 4.8 - 6V
All very similar to the M140, BUT THEY ARE NOT M140!
Datasheet

Very efficient, very powerful. You will not be disappointed.

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450 (M140)

@Elektrotechniker
Yes it is. Here you go some specifications about it... :beer:
Osram Catalog

@The Lightning Stalker
You sure the PL TB450 is the "M140" diode?
Seems like PL TB450B can be pushed harder... (rated 1.6W instead of 1.4) can you source those too? ;)

edit: is there a minimum number of buyers to get this group buy running?

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450 (M140)

Im guessing if the Nichia NDB7875 diodes havent been removed from a projector then they wont come with a lens? TBH even without a lens, and at around $85, the projector pulls are much better value. So what am I missing? :thinking: :beer:

If you make a GB for a projector containing the ndb7875 diodes, it will come to around $65 per diode! I was thinking of starting one earlier, but it's a big responsibility :P That also includes the lens, TBH i'd much prefer to buy a projector pull for such a smaller price then a non projector pull without lens.

Does anybody really know for sure what the M140 actually are? These are 5.6mm 440 -
460nm >1W much like the M140.

These are in fact the TB450B. I was in doubt of the 1.6W rating the seller quoted me
since I didn't see them on Osram's site. That and the language barriers and whatnot. I
was looking at the wrong datasheet. The thread will be updated to reflect this.

There is a 40 diode minimum. 50 would be even better.

@grainde
No lens, that is correct. They are brand new, never installed in anything, so you don't
have to worry about someone else's soldering skills and more heat cycles on the diodes.

Wait so are these M140s or no? If so, I may be in for a couple....

No, they are not M140. They have a slightly better beam profile than the M140 and are about
the same power.

Few people know what the M140s actually are and they are not telling us. The
semiconductor business in general relies heavily on secrecy. Part numbers are changed and
parts resold, scratched off, or sometimes not even present in the first place. Laser diodes are
probably the worst. Real part numbers are often not given or if they are, they are phony. The
808nm ones are particularly troublesome. The true manufacturers are kept secret, part
numbers changed or not given at all, even on new ones at the time of sale. It's like trade
secrets with anything else, just on a whole new level.

DTR sells both M140's, and PLTB450's. People know them as separate diodes, with different specs. So to compare them in the thread title as being the same diode is confusing people.

$37 is a decent price for either diode, but if people are going to go in on a GB, they want to know exactly what they're getting.

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450 (M140)

The M140 is from a specific projector. Its from a XJ-M140 Ca$hio projector. The A140 is from a Ca$hio XJ-A140 projector. There is enough known about these diodes to know where they come from and who makes them. Afaik they are NICHIA diodes but they may have been swapped over the years.

Do some small research and know where to look and you will unearth a ton of knowledge

Therefor this GB is not for M140 diodes but yet Osram 5.6mm 445nm diodes

Okay, it now says specifically they are not M140, but I can't edit the title to reflect this.

37$ is the same that DTR sells them for...what is the point of this GB if the prices arent cheaper? :thinking:

Re: Feeler: Osram PL TB450 (M140)

WAT, i swear i clicked the 1.4 watt diode and it took me to the 80mW :O

My bad. And for that price, i may be interested. After all, i need something to stuff in my kryton.
