Re: Jetlasers GB #7 is NOW ongoing- LQQK

Some pics of PL-E in silver/metallic finish. The gray color might look better but it doesnot look in the pics.
A few parts machined wrongly and they were returned for revision while we're assembling some 445nm or 405nm first. i will update more pics soon.

WOW! Those are beautiful lasers... I really like the silver/grey look instead of the regular black finish of most pointers. It sets it apart from the rest.

I usualy prefer a black host but with that silver I've changed my mind.

So I am getting anxious...

About when will we be able to send in our funds and place our order?

Sometimes issues come up after production and need alterations in order for the best possible final product. (like the ones that needed to be re-finished)

In short-- only a crystal ball can reveal when they will be ready- we are all just as anxious are you are.... but returning and repairing/altering costs JL too much if done too often and considering the lowered price we get w/ the GBs. So just check this thread (both new posts and the OP) for asap updates and be sure that your choice of which wavelength, switch preferred and finish choice, BE(s) wanted etc.. is firm and that I have all that correct for your laser.. last minute changes only slows down the process as JL needs to ship the entire order in the same box.

Testing by me on a PL-E will be done immeadiatly after the sample arrives.

Thanks to all for waiting.... Len:thanks:

To answer some BE questions- this is from thhe site jetlasers.org

additionally those getting PL-E will get either when delivered or later when they are ready an adaptor to fit BE to PL-E series.

*****************************
Stock clearance. For upgrade all beam expanders, 3x, 5x and 10X Laser Beam Expanders are provided by Jetlasers at clearance prices. Adapters for attaching them to laser pointer pens and portables are also provided free of charge.
The screw threads of the 3X, 5X and 10X beam expanders is 25.4mm (1") C-format.
Features of Laser Beam Expanders
Item # Expansion Input Aperture AR Coating
BE-3X 3X Ø2.5 mm 350-1340 nm
BE-5X 5X Ø2.5 mm 350-1340 nm
BE-10X 10X Ø2.5 mm 350-1340 nm

■High Performance Optical Design
■>99% High Transmission Coating
■3x, 5x, 10x Options of Expansion Power
■Laser beam expanders feature diffraction limited optical designs with large output clear apertures of over 25mm, expansion ratios from 2X to 10X and input apertures of 2.5mm. The beam expanders have high transmission, low wavefront distortion and can be specified at single and dual wavelengths from 248nm to 1550nm. Damage thresholds are typically 500MW/cm2.
A laser beam expander is designed to increase the diameter of a collimated input beam to a larger collimated output beam. Beam expanders are used in applications such as laser scanning, interferometry, and remote sensing. Contemporary laser beam expander designs are afocal systems that developed from well-established optical telescope fundamentals. In such systems, the object rays, located at infinity, enter parallel to the optical axis of the internal optics and exit parallel to them as well. This means that there is no focal length to the entire system.

Notes/Disclaimers:
These beam expander has a restriction of the input beam dia., around 2.5mm, so if the input beam dia. exceeds it, it would cause some diffraction effect or blurrs or rings on or around beam profile.
The output beam profile might not be perfectly centered in the output lens due to the lens combinations within the BE and the concave-convex lens of the laser. However, it doesnot affect the beam profile quality through the beam expander.

The Beam Expander you're going to order will come with these three type of adapters or that
1. For OD:14mm Laser Pointer Pens. Φ14mm is the standard(or most popular) size of laser pointer pens in the market.
2. For OD:36mm(≤36mm)Handheld Lasers. A big number of portable lasers sold worldwise have a head diameter of 36mm or less, So this type of adapter fits it well.
3. Customized adapters for PL-C PRO and PL-D Pro. For internal screw thread of M28. This is a screw-on adapter Jetlasers machined for screwing the beam expanders into the head/front female thread of some portable lasers(with the aperture head removed.)

Re: Jetlasers GB #7 is NOW ongoing- LQQK

Sorry that it's been too long to wait for the PL-E while we're shooting the troubles on mechanical parts and laser functionalities.
Now the main issues is the crystal failure, Ld and the efficiency issues.

We returned the batch of crystals that founded to be unable to sustain the higher power and a dozen of 2.5w nlight LD also is tested to be too low in wavelength for pumping. Now a few 500mw can be as stable as we expected.

Tec becomes kinda a pain during the initial tests and for 532nm, it consumes too much current like 500mah but the efficiency is not high enough. As is suggested, all is needed is to fully draw heat away from the laser module and then dispose of it efficiently into the air.

Now the efficiency is to be enhanced asap.

I will update more this week.

Deeply sorry for all the waitings!!!
Best,
Gray

I don't think any apologies are necessary for spending the time to get them right. I am very impressed with your open discussion and aggressive approaches to the problem. It is very interesting to read what is being done.

Re: Jetlasers GB #7 is NOW ongoing- LQQK

Gray beat me at this- 13 hr diff in time!!

this email(unedited) came from Jetl today.... Gray is doing his best to make the PL-E happen and do so w/o any issues. PLZ direct any questions to me. We do not want to take any of his time away from the goal of sending us the best possible lasers. ++

"Hello Len,
SORRY i missed your message via facebook! I might chat u tomorrow there.

+The GB price for 700mw PL-E might be around 650$.(NOTE 'MIGHT" & 'AROUND')

700mw would be ready to order next week while things are getting better now and we can achieve decent power output with TEC while Tec also consumes a lot of current like 500mah, so the efficiency is not that high and we are also trying to add a fan to it to see how better the heat flow can be bettered.

Without adding the fan, the current rises to around 5A in 10 mins and the bad is that the host becomes overheated then. As the heat is not decently dissipated with the Tec, the power consumption of Tec itself increases as well. It happens that the heat generated by Tec itself increases and its efficiency decreases. The heat issues is still not fundamentally solved.

Meanwhile adding the fan, the current maintains around 3.5A after the laser is left on for 30mins or longer.

Without any accident, the PL-E or also a PL-D pro will be shipped to u. We're finished some models but none of us reached our expectation.
I believe more people will be interested if u do the test and more pics are uploaded.

Take care, Len!
It's also nearly summer. I know Texas is a hot region in summer, so just get everything prepared to fight against the heat before it's over temperated.
Thanks,
Gray"-(end quote)

Re: Jetlasers GB #7 is NOW ongoing- LQQK

Hey, I was wondering; is the PL-D Pro 532nm available in any of the sub-300mW variants? Particularly the 150mW variant. A friend of mine wants to get into lasing, but doesn't want to spring for a CNI like I did when I started out. Meanwhile, I'm contemplating one of those tasty 1.5W 445nm PL-E Pros.

l was just thinking and I maybe way off on this one but if battery drain is an issue then why not make a battery extenion tube for 18650 if it can run on 2 3.6v or 2 3.7v ?

Just thinking , could be totaly wrong.

Re: Jetlasers GB #7 is NOW ongoing- LQQK

AFAIK except for a special order for 700mW 532/ProPL-D the list is all thats available and we hope to wrap this one up very soon- so.... you dont have a lot of time to choose. There will however be a Gb #8 this summer.

I think I am about to get the first PL-D very soon to test and then sell for JETL_& it very well could be the 1.5W-- stay turned to this thread-if you want it.

welcome to LPF

Thanks a lot, Tsteele.:) Yes, the problems will and have to be solved anyway but time might be killed in waiting. :) It would have saved the issues if jetlasers thought everything through.

Hey Spenkmage, thanks for asking.:)
Yes, we added 150mw/200mw/250mw into the power level options.
The GB price is 150$/190$/240$. The pros is that PL-D pro is kinda of bulky for 150mw.

For 445nm, we only got two options to provide so far, a 1.2-1.3w focus adjustable version, a 1.5w with fix focus. It should have been pushed to higher power but to better the beam quality bit by bit, we didnot go that far. The first group of finished models are not with either tec or fan cooling but the duty cycle can be also continuous.

The GB Price is as follows:
1.2-1.3w focus adjustable version : 250$
1.5w with fix focus: 260$

You're right Xenophobe:). Battery extenion tube is readily available but only for 405/445nm who entails a volt of 8v or the like.
Now a single 18650(with a case reducer) or 26650 is good for the 532nm.

For 445nm, 2x16340(mostly 800mah only or 2x18650(mostly 2200-3000mah) or 2x26650(3000-5000mah) are no problem. Button top 18650/26650 is recommended to tighten the contact coz as tested, two pcs of flat top ones dont contact/connect well. I'm posting pics later.

Re: Jetlasers GB #7 is NOW ongoing- LQQK

Hopefully we will be calling for the funds very soon. Those not ready will have the option of waiting for GB #8-- AFAIK JETL cannot take PooPal and I have never been able to use it for the GBs- another reason I do not take PP for the GB funds that go through me.

anyone reading this for the for 1st time and not familiar how a GB works go the that section and read the first stickie thread you will find there.

If you have questions about how I run mine look at the OP of some the past 6 I have hosted. see my feed back and rep..
