Review: Radiant Electronics Laser Power Meter!

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted to keep this info separate.

Please note that the LPM does not measure temperature. You can put the sensor in an oven and it will read 000 if the air currents are stable. The meter measures temperature difference, and room air currents/vents/AC/heaters/direct sunlight can all cause the readings to change. These should be avoided when taking readings (this applies to all thermal LPMs).

The Alpha reads my 5mW WL Core just fine. The zero adjust knob gives you a few mW of wiggle room, but if you cannot adjust the readings to zero the heatsink is likely not at room temperature and should be given some time to stabilize.

I'm definitely not unsatisfied, I was just curious about the readings because it seemed they were low compared to what I was anticipating, that's all.

It was a little bothersome that it wouldn't detect a 5mW laser, but I don't need accuracy that high either.

I have, however, found the best method for taking what seems like more accurate LPM readings which involve a carpet instead of a kitchen table in a heated room. The kitchen has a door that goes directly outside and I'm wondering if that tossed the readings off somewhat.

I'll keep using it though if I get another LPM I would be happy to provide feedback on the differences between their accuracy though I'm sure it would be close

Also, if you just want to check, and see if your meters off, you can send me a laser, and I can test it on my nospin LPM, it's only 2 weeks old. So maybe that can give you some clarification, PM me if you want.

I have compared to ophir thermo recently calibrated and the alpha is lower on reading mw and of course slower to get there, sometimes above my comfrotable run time for highpower lasers.
