I got the cap removed, but i can't access the module like justin07 can. How do you take it out to pot mod it? Help?
If you take the foam out in the back where the spring is then you can see the pots location. You might be able to turn it while the module is still in the laser somehow. It's not that far into the housing.

Less than $10 shipped for an overspeced 405nm laser? Sign me up! You should ask this guy for some kick back, or free stuff or something, all the advertising you're giving him!

Thanks for the review, I'll have to get one of these to turn down for fun with fluorescent things... :D

I just ordered that combo too, I can't wait, I lost my swimsurferdude laser that I bought :(

Got mine, (he is quick shipping) turned out really good for the price.

Sorry to hear about your lost laser, that's a bummer.

Use at least 5 or 6 layers of paper, wrap around the cap, Grip very tightly in a vice, and then grab hold the barrel and slowly wiggle it out, move left-right while pulling - but don't over-do it, paper may slip and vice can scratch the cap, ruining the esthetics...

It's fairly simple.

Unless the damned thing is epoxied in there, then it'll take about an hour of fiddling to get it off.

Thanks. Worked perfectly

I managed to get the cap off of the violet laser pointer and focused the beam more, it definitely improved the divergence for me. Still looks like a bunch of little dots but it doesn't bother me anymore. Thanks for the info on how to remove the cap. I was gonna try to pot mod it down to make it weaker but it wouldn't budge when I tried to push it down through the barrel. How much force do you have to use to get it out of the casing? Without breaking it.

Depends where force is applied. If you have proper tool, you can just push by surrounding brass of the diode, not touching the driver.

I'd rather not try to pot mod it.

You buy 5 mW pen, you get overspec 30mW pen for $9 and you still want to pot mod it for more power. And when it's dead, it's somebody else's fault.

Don't pot mod your lasers. Evar. It's just not worth it.

Is it possible to evaluate this one and the one from
ETIMESHOP
-etiemshop is a great pen. i use as a great pointer in my classes.
My 50mW Ledshoppe green is too bright - the public may get eyes hurt if the room is too dark.
so i use this 5mW (presumably overspec) etimeshop pen.
i like the 405nm color! now i wonder if this one from this topic is superior to the etimeshop pen.
if anyone who has both could post a review... they are equaly cheap.
regards!

I'm pretty sure they're the exact same pointer from the same manufacturer. The only difference is that this one ships from the USA while the Etime will take a ton longer shipping from china.

I just received the combo set. Pretty impressed for the price:) I'm not sure about the 405, but the green HAS to be overspec. It's pretty bright for a sub $10, <5mw pointer and can clearly see the beam at night.

In an earlier post, someone mentioned they have dots with their 405. I do too. I also have built 2 6x GGW's that have this same pattern. Does anyone know if this is just the way this wave length is, or have I just been unlucky 3 times now?

At that price, I'd probably give em for free instead of "selling" them to friends lol

Potmod them down to make em safe.

Would make good presents lol

i just ordered the violet and green combo - i won't be pointing at my eyes or anything blatantly silly, but because these are overspec @~30mW, would goggles be necessary? i'm really just looking to use them as pointers.

i intend to potmod them down eventually.

If you're getting them to use as pointers goggles are useless. You won't be able to see the dot or beam with them. Just don't be stupid with em and you'll be fine.
