1.9W Ehgemus RPL Stlyle 26650 Host
Alright I felt this newest 26650 host that I got from Ehgemus deserves it's own review even though it is very similar in capabilities and components as the last one but the look of this host is just that awesome.
Ehgemus first told me about this host when he was letting me know my 2X26500 host was finished. He said he had made a 26650 host that is modeled after a RPL host. I said I most definitely wanted it:eg: I am always on the hunt for unique hosts. And I must say when I got this unit I was very impressed with the look of it.
HOST
The body of this host has very smooth finish with a grooved head and mirror finished focus adapter.
And of course it has his very smooth forward clicky which I always say is one of the signature features of his hosts.
It's large body and direct press head makes it a perfect candidate for a monster build. This unit can be run for very long periods of time. I did a 10 minute run without any heating issues.
It really feels good in the hand. Solid and smooth.
Assembly
This host is constructed very similar to the last 26650 host I reviewed from Ehgemus so I will not go too in depth with the assembly.
Here are all the components needed for this build.
Set up the flexdrives @ 900mA each and attach them to the little heatsinks with thermal adhesive.
Let the adhesive harden for 15 minutes.
Then adhere the first driver to the host walls.
Connect up the second and repeat the last step.
Then wire them up in parallel and solder the leads to the diode. On this unit I just bridged the case pin and the negative pin on the diode so as to only have two wires connecting the diode. Woks best to keep them from getting twisted up when screwing on the head. Remember to put your shrink tubing on the wires before you solder them to the diode.
Move your shrink tubing over the pins and heat it up.
Pack the wires all nicely as far down in the host as possible.
Then rotate the head counterclockwise 6 revolutions twisting the wires up then put the head on letting the wire untwist while screwing it in.
Now just screw your lens into the focus adapter.
Screw the focus adapter with lens into the head of the host. Pop in a battery and you are ready to go.
BEAMSHOTS
LPM TEST
Test was done with a 405-G-1 lens.
FINAL THOUGHTS
I really like this host. It is very sleek and feel great to hold. And as always it has good mass, a direct press head, awesome forward clicky and uses a 26650 battery. You just can not go wrong.
Thanks for reading my review.
