The assembly order for the top end would be heatsink > rubber ring > plastic cut out end placed in opposite direction and then the driver right?

I found that it doesn't fit in the torch in that order unless I remove the rubber ring.
Same problem here...
I had to remove the silver plastic thing. For red diodes, i just remove the metal washer.
It fits together better for me if I have it in the same order as above just with no o ring on it. But then I still don't have the driver in any case... out of stock

Yeah... if you use the same host as my VicLight, or if you use the sku 46 host, it should work just like my tutorial... Unless they have some slight differences in the parts.

But as was suggested, you can 'fiddle around' with it, and make it work one way or another...

Seams to work better for me without the o ring.

Instead of buying separately has anyone tried buying these 9 packs?

They look like the sku 46 to me.

Take a close look at the customer pictures in the DX page...

It looks like those hosts do not unscrew at the head. The body is one piece, and the plastic lens is glued in place.

There seems to be several 'look alike' brands. I could not tell you if it is the same as the DX sku 46 light. The only way to know for sure, is to spend $3 dollars and buy the DX sku 46 light! :)

Hey all,
Great tut, i have most parts ordered, and now i ofcourse need 2 of those heatsinks. Anyone know a good replacement for the flexdriver that fits in this host? Or are the flexdrivers back in stock soon?
Thanks :)

I would stick with the flexdrive on this build, I have built a red burner and have a blue ray build in progress using this build and there really isnt much space for any other driver. You might be able to get a different one in there but what ever it is, its going to be a squeeze.

Yeah... I'll second what lamborgini8 said...

Space is limited. Let me know when your ready for the heatsinks. I will need to know exactly which hosts you are using. Are they the sku 46 hosts from DX?

I see from one of the customer pictures in DX's site, that the head unscrews from the body, so it is probably the same as the sku 46 host. But let me know what the I.D. measurement is at the front. Where the plastic lens is...

I can't be sure, i'll have to wait till they arrive or i have to take the plunge. Also the description on DX is exactly the same...

I have Aixiz modules and i ordered some glass lenses from ebay. The red burning laser should peform better with glass right? Also, i heard the blue beam from a PHR module cant be focussed to "infinity" with and aixiz module.. is this correct?

its not really blue but if pressed in housing correctly all the way in then yes it can be focused to infinity

AixiZ glass will give you maybe 8 or 10mW's more power with red. The only thing I don't like about the AixiZ glass lens for this Pocket Pal build, is that it sticks out the front of the module when it is at normal focus...

With a different build, you would just find focus, and then set your module farther back into the heatsink using the set screw so that the focus ring is just about flush with the face of the heatsink. This looks better. (IMO) But with the Pocket Pal build, there is limited space inside of the host between the module and driver cavity.

A better lens choice for AixiZ/Red build, is this AR coated acrylic lens from e-bay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350117036998

That lens screws right into the AixiZ module and the back is already opened up for you! It will give you 10% more power with a red build, and the focus is the same as the AixiZ acrylic. :)

You may have to message the seller about availability. I happen to have a couple of these, and would sell you one with your heatsinks for an additional $10 bucks.

About the blu-ray, Aixiz acrylic is the best choice. Then in a couple of weeks when IgorT is going to start his Group Buy for his 405nm glass lens fit for AixiZ, get in on that for the best power for blu-ray with AixiZ! ;) See here:
http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1212842385/704#705

Blu-ray focus with the AixiZ acrylic is fine, except for when you have the 'finger grip' focus ring installed. There are a couple of things to consider in solving this small issue...

* Many have found (from what I read), that pressing the diode past the 'flush' point, and all the way into the module solves the problem by bringing the diode closer to the lens, allowing it to focus before it 'bottoms out' at the front of the module.

* But I have not personally needed to do this, because I solve the problem a different way. I simply put the finger grip focus ring into my lathe, and trim the back down a little. This slight adjustment makes the focus ring just a little thinner. You can barely even see the difference. But it allows the lens to be able to be screwed down closer to the diode to get focus.

I just got into a habit of the way I personally press diodes flush, and it's just a matter of what you get used to...

If you need any AixiZ modules when ordering the heatsinks, I have them for an additional $5 bucks. Just let me know if you want the focus ring modified for blu-ray, and I will do this at no extra charge.

Thanks man, i just sent money for the heatsinks before i read your post and i allready ordered an aixix from DX and one from Drew. Tho i'm not sure Drews are aixiz modules. Is modding the focus ring easy? i maybe could try to do it myself..

From what I understand, if the diode is pressed in all the way past the flush point, the AixiZ lens will focus fine. But I have always just used my method, because that is what I got used to...

Here is a drawing that was posted to show you what I am talking about. This diagram shows a Meredith 5.6mm adapter, but the principal is the same with an AixiZ module.
