Default New to custom lasers building & need some pointers!

I have a Jib 1.25A Driver I don't really remember who I got it from Moh or Directly from Jib77 who I guess is gone now due to his job?

Anyway over a year ago I killed my Arctic S3 when I spun the head and twisted the leads on the diode trying to Collomate the lens that was very out of focus, and wouldn't burn anything @ over 5 feet. After that I decided since it was under spec I would just put a new A140 with one of jibs drives.

I ordered a Driver, but before I had the $ for a Diode things got sour & I lost my job, then had to move for a new job...

Now that I am back on my feet I come back to find that we now have the M140 that is getting 1.5W to 2W with 1.6A drivers? I have bought an M140 from DTR but I am wondering If I shouldn't pickup a 1.8A Linedrive for it and make a 2W beast or if the 1.25A Drive I have is going to be enough.
what drives are best for the M140?

I plan on making the host negative
& I will likely be running 2 16350 due to the 6V Input required by Linedrives Any help or tips you guys could shoot my way would be appreciated.

I'm no stranger to electronics although most of my talent is in computers I have modded a few Mag chargers, and other torches to LED, and I know my way around a soldering iron, but LED mods are relatively new to me.

Thanks again guys for the tips!

1. Depends on you what output you want.
--Since m140's have proved to be great when pushed to 1.6 or higher but with a conservative duty cycle. You can use it for about 40s at high current to save the diode and assure its longevity.

2. Depends on the Lens. See Jayrob's Tutorials on using Aixiz Glass VS the G-Lenses.
--At 1.25A with a G-2 , your output will be just the same as with a aixiz glass lens at 1.6A

Suggestion: Afaik Use the Jib Driver 1.25A for now and get a better lens..
That will give you about twice the duty cycle and a long living diode..
Beam Visibility remains the same..
Linear drivers have a dropout voltage and are inefficient (produce alot more heat) Unless you decide to do a DIY Boost Driver Opensource , the latest and a major contribution to lpf community by BEN & RHD(thanks again guys)

If you want great drivers and have the extra cash get two 5v boots drives and set each to 800mA with a G-1 or G-2 lens and you should easily get a 1.8W OP. Im running 2 5v boosts with an M140 off of a single AW 18650 and I get an average output just shy of 2 Watts I am able to light matches at a max of 12 feet with the G-1 405 lens. Though still impressive I can light a candle at 5-7 feet if I use a tripod mount to keep the laser steady

If you are set on using 2 x 16350's then definitely stick with one of the linear drivers. The last 445 I built pushed 1.8W in an Aurora C6 host with a G-2 lens. You can see the results here My new 445 - Aurora C6 Host!

This is the driver I used along with 2 x AW 16340's: Mohgasm Linear Driver - $12.00 : Mohgasm!, Because it feels so good.

Good luck with your rebuild!

If you plan on building anything that requires a draw of 1.6 amps or higher you should strong consider using AW IMR batteries to handle the high draw. Here is also a link good source that I personally order many of my batteries from: Welcome to Lighthound, Inc. - Cree LED Flashlights, Lithium Batteries, Lithium Ion Batteries, Li-Ion Chargers, LED Flashlights, Leatherman Multitools, Spyderco Knives and more!

Thanks for the tips guys I have a couple of AW's 18650s they are a couple years old though. I got them from 4sevens.
Im looking into getting a heatsink made up to fit inside the Arctic that will hold an Aixiz module so I can get some better glass for that Diode. I think for now I will stick to the lower powered Linear drive then when I get the $ buy another driver Ill boost this up to 1.8 or 2W if I am lucky.
