Hi all I'm new to this fourm!
i am starting a burning laser project as you can read from the title but i need a little help...

Own/ just Bought:
16x dvd burner red burning laser from darklasers.com (up to 200mw)
mini-maglite with push button on/off

Need:
Micro flexlite driver (good for burning lasers right?) -$27ish
preset Aixiz module-$5ish
?
?
So i was planning on following kipkays video on how to make a burning laser maglite but i was going to add a driver for safe measures.... I was not planning to hack away at my maglite i was planning to use the top of the aixiz module so it fits without cutting up my maglite.
What else do i need to buy/do?
Thanks much for any help.

Yes, Welcome to LPF!

I have to agree with Jayrob, a minimag can be a tough task as a first build but nothing says you can't do it so long as your determined and patient enought to get it done right. I can speak from experience as i just finished a matched set of three.

<--Now where did i put that pic of them? :D

Yeah, adding a driver in a minimag makes it a tight fit especially if you plan to power it off of the standard 2AA setup its made for, that only leaves room in the head for everything else. Jayrob's kit seeks to fix this problem by moving the driver into the battery barrel.

So, if i do buy Jayrob's heatsink/ spacer kit i would be spending an additional $35
Which brings up my total cost to $77 Which is more than what i wanted to spend....
so if worse comes to worse i would need to buy Jayrob's kit..... Hmmmmm

*Edit: $85 including the battery... http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12589 These are correct yes? It says unprotected though...
*edit edit* $10 charger for the batts so approx. $100 YIKES

Its not a cheap hobby. You can buy complete builds from Chinese companies but they are garbage. You get what you pay for and Jay has quality products, so its up to you. I saved for months before I did my build so I could get exactly what I want. Good luck in finding what you want.

Edit: A heat sink is a must. It will keep your diode from frying.

Here is another tutorial..

Not to be noobish but doesn't the aixiz module act as a heatsink?

Not really. Anything over 70mW needs a heat sink. I had my 120mW Blu-Ray in a small heat sink and in under 1 minute I could not touch it because it got so hot. Kip does not mention this because he gets to sell more diodes when the first diode he sells you dies in an hour.

I cant seem to find any protected 14650 batteries anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!
I checked dealextreme.com and bestofferbuy.com and neither of them had protected 14650 batteries!
