I will start with a saying it looks like I was wrong about these. I had a sample in my hand a month ago which I destroyed after running it only for a few seconds before killing it via a stupid mistake. In my short glimpse of the beam profile I was sure the divergence was better than the Mitsu diodes but my testing tonight has made me question my sanity. Looks like I may have got a lot of peoples hopes up and I am sorry for that.:eek:

First thing I did was to compare it to a G71 diode both using a standard G-2 glass lens. While it is a fraction smaller when I actually measured it they are nearly the same.:(

So there we have it the Oclaro 700mW 638nm diode. Hopefully this helps bring this diode into perspective..​

I've been waiting for this. at least the wings dont look as bad it seems. do you think this diode would live longer driven at 1.3A than would a 500mW G71 driven to reach 1W? (not sure how much current that takes, more than 1.3A right?)

After the 638nm lens that laseerer had to help out with the Mit. might not even get to the 1W mark.

While it has the bar (multimode) it appears from the picture that the back ground aberration
seems drastically reduced.

DTR, you think you could put one of the side by side with a 71 both driven to 1w and tell us if there is any apparent shift iIn wavelength? It seems that about the only real benefit to this diode is the life expectancy may be longer that a 71 driven to 1w, unless this one doesn't have near as much shift in color. I went ahead and ordered one set to 1.4-1.5 amps. I've got the 71 you sold me a while back that's running at 1w so I will do my own comparison as well. I just don't have the fancy camera equipment you've got.

fast shipping as always

so similar to the mitsubishi. could swear it was reverse engineered. I think the wings are more symmetrical, but still present. diode window is about the only other difference

I cant wait to have one of these. Im thinking mace of doom and this would be a great combo. I never had a red over 200mw before.

I like the look of these diodes -but does anyone know how to get FAC on it? I'm not a fan of that beam profile.

Assuming you can find the right microlens, which is difficult in and of itself, getting a tiny
cylinder lens perfectly positioned is ridiculously frustrating without a micropositioner. It has
been done, but those who have regret doing it. It is much easier to use a pair of cylinder
lenses like CDBEAM did with his build. Check it out.

That's nuts! At first when you started off talking about finding a micro lens I thought you were setting up some sarcasm or something. Are you aware of a thread where somebody describes this process? I'd like to see it and see the results. I would think it would require a microscope set around x20 and some sort of 3 axis micro adjustable tool. I know my hands aren't steady enough to do something like that. SMD soldering is one of the few things that can get me cussing.....the fire of Hell would light my tongue if I attempted this I am certain.

Well....Yes....a small pair of Cylinderical lenses will work. I have not yet experimented with the 63193....BUT...It DOES look like LESS aberration !!
...Read....LESS WING GARBAGE !!! SO.....Less GARBAGE in....Less GARBAGE out would be a logical conclusion !!!!

On the Dragon's Head build...even with critical attention given to LD to 2mm Aspherical positioning with the LSP adjustable LD mount....and running the beam thru Cylindericals.....and adding a spatial mask ( Read small 1/4" acrylic with a small horizontal slot in it )....There are STILL some VERTICAL wings.....slight....but there !!!!!! I wish I could eliminate them !!! Maybe the 63193 would do this !!! Dunno !!! I will likely try in the near future !!

Would a FAC solution work ??? I think it would !!! But.....If you balk at the cost of an End Mill !!!! What do you think a Industrial X-Y Micro Positioner costs !!!! HAHAHAHA 50K I would guess.....for a used unit !!!

I seem to remember reading that other members have tried to find a lab/source that would accomplish the mounting of a FAC lens.....With NO LUCK !!

Finding the lens...and then mounting it....NOT a DIY deal.....Well...NOT for me !!! When I look at a tiny, fine tip tweezer's...under 20X magnification...It looks like there is an EARTHQUAKE going on....sans coffee !!

SOooooo...for now...With the Red line..seems we are stuck with an add-on of Cylinderical Lenses....and...as far as I am aware....the Dragon's Head design is the only successful attempt to optically correct the P-73....or would correct the 63193 !!!

...unless...I have my " FAC's " wrong !!!!: HAHAHAHA confused::confused::confused:

In post #15, page 2 of the Lazereer post...He notes that a FAC was put on the Mit 638....BUT no results ???? Angelos ???????? First question.....DOES IT WORK ?????? Show me the money/beam shot !!!! I think if it did work.....sounds like it is cost prohibitive to get it done....or....we can find no one willing to do it !!! DUNNO ?????

AND...FURTHERMORE !!!!! The Dragon's Head Design (DHD) will be a very good platform for Multi LD HH Builds........ These should be called " Combiners " or " Combinatorics "......as assembled by a "combinatorist". Yikes !!! Green + Blue = Teal.... or Red + Blue = Purple....Red + Green = Yellow.....Possible ALL are doable ????
