[/IMG]Bought a really nice looking host off ElectricPlasma, took one 14500. So I decided to make a red laser. When to DTR and bought 700 with a Nano driver and a g2 lens. Got all the fixing so onto the build.
IMG_0865_zpsunq1pogl.jpg
[/IMG]Wraped a multi-strand wire real tightly around the contact board/plughttp://i682.photobucket.com/albums/vv187/BobMc001/IMG_0868_zpshg6pqdzc.jpg[/IMG][/IMG]Put some thermo compound on the module and slid her in place
IMG_0868_zpshg6pqdzc.jpg
[/IMG]Than I soldered and shrink tubed the the positive and negative to the contact board
IMG_0872_zpsb0jxvaqx.jpg
[/IMG] and push her in place
IMG_0869_zpsxoy33zue.jpg
[/IMG]than I could not get the spring to stay in the middle of the tail cap so I found a piece of shrink tube that was just about the same size as the opening and cut it to fit. Which should keep the spring from grounding out to the host and turning on the laser.

[/IMG] time to put it all together ( say a little prayer) put the battery in and give it a try.
IMG_0876_zps2zjfwcyu.jpg
[/IMG] Bingo!! put this on a LPM and see what we got.
IMG_0880_zpsvnes5x4u.jpg
[/IMG] 835 mw's that's not to bad for one 14500.Than I chose to put a green lens cap on the tail button to spice up the look a bit and the finished product is----

[/IMG] Kinda cute.!! Hope you enjoy the read !

Looks like EP is doing nice work. Good job making it work. How about some foggy beamshots

Yes he is dden, thanks, it was an easy build, maybe two hours max. Foggy beam shots, well, haven't broke down and bought a fog machine yet. Might be able to get some beam shots at night though. I'll see what I can do.? Thanks for the interest!

Hi BM
Nice build came out great your on the roll buddy. Hey what's with the wooden contact board? I'm assuming there is no 17mm counter sink in the host for the board. Well anyway you did a great job .

Nice job on the build and especially the contact board! That alone should earn you some rep! ;)

Edit: Almost as ghetto, but admittedly more functional than Spirorocks ground screw

Morning Rich, that's the way it came. Thought it made it real easy. Thanks for the words of encouragement you've been a great help to me along the way. Still got three mag lite heat sinks that I got from you, that still need a good home. Thinking next trip out I'll start getting parts for those builds . Thanks again!!!

Thanks Grainde! Thought it was pretty original from E.P made it quick and easy! Thanks for the reps also

Nice diode choice but that wavelength isn't a great burner unfortunately. I have the 700 in a C6.

700 in a c6 that's gotta be nice! Yea, know it's not a great burner but had to get some red in my collection. When I need a burner I can pull out my 44's and cook some steaks! Thanks enjoy and be safe!

Hi BM,
Yes i agree some time you just have to build a mellow laser from all the rest. Nice WL Buddy . I have a labby that lazeerer made for me, It's a C mount diode in a machined brass enclosure. it specs out at 675 to 680 nm and puts out around 900+mW;s . basically it is the last labby he produced before pulling out of the light. All parts were ultrasonically cleaned before the build. it took about 4 to 5 weeks to complete with tweaking the lenses to produce a beam.

Rich:)

Nice! That got to be awesome in the dark !! 900mw's of 675ish is the definition of cool!

Can you show me how to make a 1.5 a driver circuit for red 1.2 w?
Sorry, I actually have no idea how to make a driver circuit properly, I usually buy them premade. :) Just wondering, what red diode are you pushing to 1.2 watts? If it's the Oclaro mentioned here, I doubt it will last long at all.

You might be right about not lasting long. I made a c6 build with Oclaro 700 diode and used the Survival Laser driver pre-set at 1.25 amps. According to DTR the diode is recommend not to exceed 1.20 amps but I give it a go and she putting out over 1.2 watts of some right bright red , for how long, that remains to be seen. She still up and running 6 months later but truthfully don't fire her that often but every once in a while just to see over a watt of red. Can be done, recommend???? But it sure is bright and she doesn't get that hot either. :)

Edit, warning, if anyone's tries this only use one 18650 , two batteries will blow diode as soon as you turn on. :(

Hi yes the mitsu 500 open can is very efficient and take a beating. I have one that puts out over 1 w + with a G2 love it . It's in a EDC host with a custom make sink and knob.

Rich:)

In your experience should use Oclaro-HL63193 diode or ML501P73 diode will be more durable.

As Diachi mentioned it depends on how hard you'd like to push them. As Lifetime mentioned the 500 can be pushed harder than the 700 and still survive, but it's open can. The 700 is closed can. So it's a personal call, some people don't mind the open can, some people do. As it says in post, 13, I made both. Personally I like the power of the 500, May not survive seeing I'm pushing it harder than my 700 but I'm willing to live with it, seeing the c6 build is inexpensive and easy to build. Hope this helps. Durable? I go with the 500. ( my opinion ). :)
