I have just received the broken laser from a customer. She drops the laser on the ground and wants me to fix it. I offer her to replace the parts at components cost and free of labor.
I made some pictures of the damage.

The laser landed on the head onto the ground.

Is that the 2.8W BIGBOY? Its a super solid host.. looks like it had quite a drop like 2-3 storeys. Definitely deserves to be resotored!!

Yes, it is the Big Boy. The 9mm diode was definitely a good one. It rest now in the laser heaven.

Member `stevebills´ dropped it? You got a "She drops the laser..." in your OP and I´m just curious :)

It´s sad that this happened. Seems that the laser got some bad injuries :(

Very good macro-shots after all :shhh:

Don't worry. I repair the laser as new again. I asked Eud for a new focus head.

Its Dead Jim :-(

That said, the diode might still be OK for optical sensing applications, I am looking into making some high altitude UV meters for which many LED'd but not O/C 405's are needed.

I also found that sometimes if you take out the glass debris by decanning you can see how bad the damage is.
If you are lucky the emitter will still be intact, and possibly salvageable as a sensor.
