sound card from DX- DealExtreme: $21.60 C-Media CM106 USB 2.0 External Sound Card Box with 7.1-Speaker SPDIF Optical Output

does all this go together? and do all the wires come with everything?
the only trouble im having is understanding what a DMX is and what its used for and where everything gets plugged into.

Ill get you some links. Basically a DMX is a box. It has pre-programmed patterns that it can play. Sometimes it has a mic for a "sound activation". (syncing the show to songs..). A DAC is a digital to analogue converter. Basically the gateway between your computer and your scanner. If you make a show in spaghetti you will NOT be able to play it with a DMX. You will need a dac for this.

I strongly suggest you read these thread. I was TOTALLY new to scanners but i started to learn more and more. Ill give you a list of threads:

1) http://laserpointerforums.com/f47/new-scanners-32674.html
2) http://laserpointerforums.com/f47/first-laser-scanner-41973.html
3) http://laserpointerforums.com/f47/first-scanner-advice-needed-right-step-into-scanners-42089.html

Do you just want a monochrome scanner? Or do you want to make a RGY/RGV/RGB? I will be using that green aswell...

PSU's come with whatever you buy(SP20's come with a psu, laser comes with a psu, if you chose to make a red then your flexmod would be your psu, ect.)

keep asking questions. It makes more sense to me when i explain it. The best way to learn is to teach it :)

haha k i see. i read all those threads and im understanding a lot. the only reason im askin a lot of these questions is to make sure im right cuz if i screw this up i screw everything up. and ya its gonna be a monochrome scanner. just green.

so if i use the sound card from DX and and and the laser correc. amp from dr.lava i wont need a DMX?

That's correct(beat me to it elektro!). You will need to tune the AMP. Refer to my thread to do that. It also has all of the connections.

Also, mind if i ask a quick question? To anyone that has used spaghetti: Are there pre-set beam show designs or can you "draw" them in? Also i may need some advice on how to make shows (like what shapes to make for which parts of the songs ect.). I would like suggestions when i start making shows. I will post the shows in the multimedia section.

Regarding your spaghetti question: Spaghetti is meant to allow you to create custom shows using existing .ild files (you already know where to find those). Spaghetti takes a multi-layered approach to show construction. Lets say, for example, you want to make a frame that contains a circle with a line across it. You have two .ild files, one with a line and one with a circle. If you place the circle on one layer and the line on another layer, the output will be a circle with a line through it. Using this method you can combine .ild files to get frames containing multiple aspects.

As far as creating your own .ild files from graphics you have around, there is other software that you can use for this. I believe that if you download the demo of Mamba Black that it comes with a full version of Mamba's frame-creation software. When you install the demo, it installs the frame creation software on the side. I haven't tried this personally, but I was told it works.

I am actually on vacation right now...Plus it is my b-day on friday so i will get some money to fund my project. I Think my project will be a "work-in-progress" for a couple months. I will be using it for my "bedroom rave" lol. It will basically be the components on a piece of wood or something similar. No box or anything. I will only be running it for ~25 minutes max.

I may have to heatsink the red a little more for runtime like that without an aluminum slab. What do you think elektro? I have one of those heatsinks that i think they use for TEC's. It has a 12v DC fan attached to the end of the heatsink...Could i just place this on top of the other heatsink with thermal compound inbetween the big heatsink and the little heatsink?

I may get the other set of scanners you pointed out. 180 shipped for sp20's is pretty good. I found another set called "CW20's". They were 140 shipped. The person selling said they would perform at 20k at 8 degrees optical angle...How do the sp's compare?
