I'm can chime in and offer the Coherent 2140 and Melles Griot 05-LHP-928 are NOT copies of the Spectra Physics 127.

The SP-127 is a side-arm hard-sealed tube with removable and adjustable mirrors.
It's among the most beautiful HeNe lasers we can enjoy.

The 928s appear similar to most other soft-seal HeNe designs housed within a 1.75-inch diameter aluminum tube, and with fixed mirrors making alignment pretty impossible.

The fact this one is sold without PSU is dubious, at best. It may not lase at all, or lase at 3mW, for all we know. Both statistically probable.

If you're looking for lasers that don't lase, but seem as if they may, I have several I can sell you. Some more exotic than the one listed. :)

Thank you, I stand corrected.

I appreciate the insight.

Sam and I are keeping an eye on this. A decent rail that I can use for some experiments needing distance (40") and it's got a couple round mounts that I have a use for. The other three mounts I don't really need however. So they may be given to Sam. Just FYI :)

Plus it'd be an upgrade from my ~18-20" rail :)

Oh man so damned tempting. I'm always afraid I'm going to break my bare tube when I get it out.

and the 3mw is gone.....

Very good flashlights at a great price. There is a new version coming out shortly, hence the deals. For most practical purposes, the difference between the old and new versions will be very hard to notice, except if you have the lights side by side.

Hey guys - I'm looking at this:
Monochromator | eBay

Anyone have any info on it? I want myself a monochromator, but I'm not sure if this is a good buy or even potentially functional.

$122 shipping

Also, no real way to know if it works without testing it.

Basic functionality is simple. Light goes in, grating diffracts it, if that light manages to hit the PCM, then it's that wavelength. Tuning a micrometer on the side turns the grating, thus turning the output of the grating. So 632.8nm light in, turning the micrometer to 632.8nm, out reaches the PCM, PCM says there is light, meter goes up reading the presence of light.

Your sticks and stones spectrometer.

Ask Sam if he would know functionality from the current photos. I wouldn't know the mirror layout of a functional system. So I can't confirm if it's working from the images provided.

I use a similar device, made by Verity however, but still a monochromator. It's nice, cheap, you get a good bang for your buck.

Something else to consider, not knowing the width of the entrance and exit slits means no known resolution and accuracy. That won't come until you test it. You may have to narrow the slits to get <2, 2, 0.5, 0.1nm resolution and accuracy.

Been watching that since it was posted on PL.

If it stays low, I'll snag it.

That being said, not sure if the head is repairable. If not, I'll let someone else have it for sure. I already have an Omni 150 that I recently repaired. Don't need two for one head.
