Hey, I bought a 5mw laser not long ago, and it arrived today.
But there's one problem, the dot is very very small.
Is it faulty?
:S Help please.

EDIT: I watch youtube videos of other green 5mw lasers, and they are much bigger dots.

if you could describe it in terms of millimeters how big would you say it is when projected on a wall 10 feet away??

Hey man thanks for fast reply.
Well, on walls it looks decent, but when i do it from my window its hardly visable outside?
:S every if i go out, and i point it to a tree for instance, its like 1-2mm big.
Is this normal, or is it because its a 4pound 5mw laser

How small is it? Have you tried to point the dot on nearer or further objects?
It should be 2-6mm big dot from near...

//edit. It is not for long range pointing. 5mW is not enaugh, and if your laser is focused on few meters range, so Yes, you can get 2mm dot. Nothing special.

And those lines are always the same, they dont change on whatever surface or distance.

Your lens is a bit dirty, but not really bad. The spot looks OK. You may just be expecting too much from a 5mW laser.

What was the distance from the laser to the wall in that pic?

Peace,
dave

The lens is plastic or acrylic. Attempts to clean it may result in an even worse spot because of damage.

It may not be what you were hoping for, but it doesn't look all that bad for a cheapie, Chinese, green pointer

Seems to be typiccal, to have some not good shaped dot, with occasional halos around the dot of lower quality units.. Try to clean the lens, and propably be happy with it. I think you got one of worse samples, You should buy two or more to get the better one and sell these others. That´s really typical for this laser grade. Hope others can say something "more experienced" to help you more, but I´m afraid, that´s really all.

I think Dave hit the nail right on the head.

The lasers you see on most of those youtube videos are much more powerful.

This is from a 100mw laser that is substantially more powerful.

Put the greenie directly onto the block of dry ice, it sizzled like grease in a frying pan.
