Welcom to LPF... As like any where in life etiquette is important. LPF is no exception. There are unsaid rules here that through out the years have become established and mandatory... Below I have listed some of the major offenses that if you stick to, your time here will be very enjoyable.

1. Don't be the noob that posts quantity over quality... we are not blind, we see what you are doing.:undecided::undecided::undecided::yabbem:

2. Don't use the rep system for personal vendeta... unless you made a purchase from another member and they screwed you.:undecided::yabbem:

3. Don't post in old threads unless you have a super valid reason.:yabbem::horse:

4. Don't even think of arguing with a senior member.:tsk::mad::mad::yabbem:

5. This is a global crowd but english is the lingua franca here. So please try to use grammar as best as possible.:tsk:

6. USE THE SEARCH BUTTON!!!!!! I said.... USE THE SEARCH BUTTON

7. Don't just say "needs a little work" and not offer advice on how to fix it! (added post kevinmassey)

8. DO... try to stay on topic.. threads are easily derailed, do your part to keep it relevant :p (thanks firemylaser)

9. Emotions don't translate though text very well. So when possible use relevant smilies!! :cryyy::yabbmad::whistle::drool::thinking:(thanks laserSbee)

10. When quoting a post that has a lot of pictures edit out the ones that are not being referred to, or just use the text :o(thanks lonewolf)

11. If you dis-like somebody don't troll thier posts, we are not stupid, we will all notice.. (thanks photonaholic)

12. Do not use excessive punctuation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Read First... LPF FORUM ETIQUETTE

Sounds good to me, and.... now I know what "lingua franca" means :D

Re: Read First... LPF FORUM ETIQUETTE

When making a thread be sure that it is in the right section.

Be clear in your thread title, and dont just say "This is cool" or "Check this".

Dont swear. Use ^&#$ or **** if you feel the need to curse.

Posting over 10 posts a day is frowned upon unless they are helpful.

Make sure you know what you are talking about before giving advice. And dont give advice that could hurt someone. We preach safety first here.

Read all stickies, and company reviews before asking what kind of laser you should buy.

Think before you post, we have enough useless comments already.

If given advice, and you dont take it, please dont cry when it blows up in your face.

Dont abuse the rep system, because it can easily be turned against you.

Just to name a few...

Good posts, It's too bad the noobs will never read them when this is stikied. The word "sticky" must mean, DO NOT READ, in some wierd noobland :P

Anyway, at least I'll have a thread to refer some people to. Thanks!

I sugest also to insert a point to limit multiple posts (within 24 hours), to encourage the use of the "edit" option :)

Looks like Dave and myself are in trouble......:cryyy:
J/K.... good etiquette points guys...

BTW... try to use smilies to convey a feeling or what you are really
trying to say if it is ambiguous...
Some posted text can be taken the wrong way from how it was
really meant..

great feed back guys. when it starts to die out i will pm c0ld about possible sticky status. but since noobs don't read stickies i will ask him to put "NOT STICKY" LoL.
and i will be taking your add ons and add them to the first thread to further save the noobs from having to read an actual whole thread omg. LoL.

Wow. Really good and often-missed point. I've been dealing with text interaction since the 80s "online", and one of the biggest problems is that text does not convey tone of voice!

So Jerry's right here that smileys actually do have utility and are not just cute little decorations.

I don't know how many arguments I've seen happen just because someone meant to add a ":)" at the end, and forgot to. It's REALLY easy to misinterpret, and feel insulted; and then, once you "fire back", the whole situation accelerates.

I think some folks end up thinking its "childish" to use smileys, but really, after so many years it's become a norm in 'net and forum culture. So don't be above using emoticons! :na:

One more line to add on my "welcome to LPF" page.

Good job and +1

How about "if you dislike someone, don't troll them continuously for months on end"
