Greens Can Indeed Burn !

I got my 50 mw green focusable from [Rayfoss] yesterday. It is a typical $35-$40 green type.
The same style is available in 100mw & 200mw
(FocalPrice still has the 50mw model For $37 prepaid.

Here are the parts:

I checked the current with a fully charged #18650 battery. It was 300 ma (20% more than my LEDshoppe 50mw).

This is a photo of the adjustable lens: (center section is finely threaded and has soft holding material)
With stock lens I measured ~6mm beam size @ 14'.

Next I attached an additional $10 glass lens to the focus ring top:

The focus was then adjusted to a few inches.
At that point, the 50 mw was able the light the match shown in the top photo.
It was also able to burn holes in white newspaper.
All of this with an additional lens in the light path.

So, it is now apparent that green lasers...
can indeed be focused to a burning point of light.

Next, I will remove the existing lens...
and replace it with a quality aspherical lens coated for 532nm.

haha niceee one Larry! You do good work once again. You're probably the first person I've seen to experiment with green collimination!

Just a question, but after modifying the laser with another lens for burning, what remains as to the original beam characteristics - meaning once the additional lans is installed, do you strictly have a burner now or can the beam be focused to original specs IE: divergence, etc?

Brew City;

With this $10 glass lens mod, I can take off the additional lens with the overcap.

Then you have the original beam, still adjustable.

Best of both worlds.

themandalorian;

There are at least 4 models (50,100 & 200mw) that use the same components;
(also a 200mw Red ).

Adjustables are the best prospects.

I also have a 50 mw pointer from LEDshoppe that I may also try.

Too many projects, so little time.

You stated your 50 mw green laser was delivering 80mw.

That would help the match lighting ability.

I was trying to focus the actual 50mw green laser to a minimum size dot ...,
and I was able to do that more effectively with the additional lens.

Would one be able to use a normal LM317 driver to drive the DPSS Green laser, like you drive a Bluray or Red ?
