Hello b.c. I'm looking for a low power green laser pointer with an ir filter.
I've read the stickies and looked around but none seem to address lasers with ir filters.
I live in the U.S. and I'm willing to order from iffy chinese sites, as well as ebay.
Thanks!

5mW lasers are very common you can find them from your local $1.00 store to the internet.
why dont you try ebay or O-like.com either of them have what you are looking for !

Ahh, that's too bad, I was going to spend less than $20 total.
Can I add in my own ir filter?
If all else fails, I'll just go with a cheap greenie...

Try to find this laser here, mine has no IR in its output, stable 25-30mW output and more than double the brightness of my "Priceangels "TRUE" 50mW newish pens" (I have 5 of them, all of them >70% IR in the output).

The laser was 11$ including shipping.

Edit: Just tested, 35-38mW output with better batteries. What I really like about this laser is that it gets to full power within 1second, while other lasers need >15sec here (18°C air temperature)

That looks good DJNY. Where did you buy?

I think I bought it on Buyincoins, but can´t find it there any longer. I´ve waited about 3 months for this laser and already forgot about it ;)

But was positively surprised when I opened the package two days ago.

Hey that sounds good.
I prefer the open-back style though, I have no idea which ones would have IR filters or not so...a link or something would be nice.
I'm eying the 10mw 532nm Green Beam Laser Pointer Pen Stylish P2 Black.

Found the company I´ve ordered from, plus the black version of the laser
10mW 532nm Green Beam Laser Pointer w/ Clip 2 x AAA Batteries 1.5V $11.08 FS&H @ GoodLuckBuy.com

The white-version isn´t available any longer, it was sold as a 1mW laser.

I don´t know if they ship to the US.

Hmm thanks, but do you know if their open-back flat front style pointers have IR filters?
I would rather have one of those...

While it's good to be concerned about the IR in your laser, the main danger to your eyes with such a laser will be the green beam. The danger with IR is that it is invisible, so you might be exposed to the IR when you don't know you are. When does this pose a problem? When you're wearing goggles that protect against green, but not the IR, and because of the darkening caused by the goggles your pupils are dilated. Otherwise, most of the IR will be where the green beam is and you should be more concerned about avoiding that than the IR.

I do realize that at worst, more than half the beam should be green, but I don't want a laser to burn stuff or anything, so having the IR is pointless, and of course, possibly harmful, so I thought I might as well go for an IR filter.
That was five commas...
