In movies I would always see lasers and they were pretty Also there is something so interesting about something that is so silent, beautiful and dangerous
Omg do I love lasers???? Ok you are about to have a long read here so this is not for the faint of heart when I tell ya why I love lasers.
Ok well the reds remind me of Superman's heat vision burning up his enemies. It also reminds me of the sun from his home planet Krypton. Each time I turn on a lovely red laser it takes me back to my childhood reading comics.
The green reminds of the green lantern, with his ring of 520-532 goodness he could do no wrong. I also think of this video and then I know I gotta get me some green! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rzur6LVV_h0
The blue reminds me of a clear summer sky all peaceful and clear.
Ok enuff of the BS . I love lasers cause I am a bonafide Nerd and Geek ! I watch scifi , keep up with tech, and love all this freaky shit!!!! I love that amplified light ! I could just sit and stare at the beams of colors for hours! I love when a spec of dust hits the beam and causes it to shimmer. OMG I am a laserholic ! I do not build these puppies to sell, I want a massive collection and each laser tells a story of how I was feeling when I built it or bought it. My eyes are extremely color sensitive and I can tell them apart by their color and beam profile cause I truly don't have two the same. I'm down with the laser peeps!!!!!!
To me, there is a sense of fun with lasers. Taking a 25mW green laser and pointing it into the nigh sky looks cool. Taking the laser and pointing it at distant objects is cool. However, "fun" has to be matched with "common sense", never point a laser at someone or at a car or aircraft.
There's also a sense of amazement at what it can do. A simple beam of light can light a match or pop a balloon.
I just love looking at the beams, my pencil thin low divergence beam of my 324mw 660nm LPC-826 is a true thing of beauty
I also love being able to light up targets miles away, feels to me like im almost reaching out and touching it myself.
I think it started with flashlights for me, then i focused on very long range throw lights with pencil beams that could throw for a mile or more, then moved to lasers, seems like a logical progression lol.
Honestly, I'm not a fan of lasers, I just need them for work and leisure reasons. Just like cars, they are inherently inefficient, always trying to outsmart you, and an exponentially depreciating asset once it hops over the warranty period. I still bother to keep one around because I need one for work and leisure reasons.
I have several hobbies but honestly one of the most self-serving is this one.
Photography, I can share my photos with others
Hifi personal audio, I can let them enjoy the aural bliss
Pens, I can write nice letters for special people
EDC, I can always be ready to help those around me
DIY electronics, I can make bang for buck amplifiers for friends
Musical instruments, I can play nice songs for a group, or go jamming
There are a couple of others like watches, coffee and go-karting, but lasers are really quite unique.
Granted, if not for this forum we'd all be staring at dots and beams without sharing ideas and keeping ourselves safe. Personally there's something about the way the beam excites the air around it that mesmerizes me. The danger it poses and the initial fear it instills to the uninitiated adds to the adrenaline but also reminds me to always be aware. The science behind it isn't all that hard and studying about laser circuitry can be quite fun.
