Well I'm back some of thought I wouldn't return. And I am a girl. My boyfriend knows about safety, he tests CNG cylinders so he knows all about safety and protection. He saw the wickedlaser on thisiswhyimbroke.com and then i kept finding him looking at videos on the arctic. He seemed really interested in it. So i wanted to get him one for Christmas. He's always told me you gotta look into stuff like before you decide to buy it and he's always on different forums. so i found this one. And then I became so lost and confused, I didn't know there were so many. But if im going to buy him a nice one and spend the money i wanna get him something awesome... so please help.

Yes, look in the "Buy, Sell, & Trade" section. You will find many great deals on lasers built by members. You will need safety glasses also.

Well, is you're boyfriend aware of laser safety?

Hey, not trying to be a dick here. But you use the word "you're" wrong a lot. Now again it's not a big deal. Although I notice it a lot in your posts and it's kind of annoying.

Flutterpie was merely pointing out your grammatical errors.
In the context of your post it is grammatically incorrect to use the word 'you're'.

@brikalanik. Check out the Buy/Sell/Trade section.
A forum built laser is going to have superior output and workmanship than any company bought laser save for the good laser companies such as Jetlasers, laserbtb and the like. Make sure you get proper laser safety glasses for the required wavelength

For a member built laser check out these threads.

Blord 1w 2.4w 445nm 501b lasers

1.5w 2.5w 445nm flash freeze laser, free US shipping

Ricktrent laser kits 3w 445nm

Blord 3w 3.5w copper Dominator

Scorcher 445nm 3.4w lasers

For a company bought laser have a look at these

Jetlasers PLE-Pro 445nm blue laser

Laserbtb PL 445nm blue laser

SF501b 445nm blue lasers

The last link is also from a member.

Not to mention I have said to you before that double posting is really bad form. Now I'm not one to give -rep in fact I don't think I have ever given -rep but please don't be the first. Take constructive criticism, and learn.

Brikalanik,

Please also see http://laserpointerforums.com/f65/33-reasons-not-buy-wicked-lasers-56289.html I was almost a Wicked Laser customer myself. Will he be happy with a WL? probably, but he might be even happier with a custom laser that is twice as powerful. As others have said, make sure you set aside some money to buy proper laser safety glasses that protect against the color of laser you buy. And once you get him the laser, it wouldn't be a bad idea to suggest this forum to him ;). It's a great community.

Javelin is just asking you to use the "edit" function rather than posting again before someone else posts. It's like not giving someone else the floor or interrupting a conversation;).

Brikalanik,
I realize it is confusing when you thought it would be a simple question. This may not be the greatest example but it turns out it's more like shopping for a car with many brands and choices within those brands and then options. You can spend a little or a lot but you have to do your homework first and discern what is hype versus real value.
Many of the safety devices that come with the vehicles are required by law and you have to have insurance to drive it away.
Now you can drive the vehicle away without wearing your seatbelt but you are not only putting yourself in danger but others if you choose not to wear it. You might be able to get away with not having insurance and driving it off the lot but again, this affects not only you but all the rest of us such as higher insurance costs and court fees and stricter laws if anything should happen.
We are ADAMANT about safety here as we are trying to protect what rights we still have with our lasers. If you've seen the news lately you would know that they are being scrutinized and many are calling for them to be banned all together.
Safety isn't just about yourself anymore. It can and does have a huge impact on all those users that are responsible users.
It was rightfully brought up that just because someone understands safety and has good practices with something else does not mean they know laser safety or would choose to follow proper etiquette.
Try not to take personal offense to some of the comments. We have heard the same question you are asking thousands of times and it just naturally gets old having to address it. We are VERY protective of our hobby and safety is a "first, last and always" here.
IF you are really serious about this and know in your heart that he WILL take heed of how to handle one then I would highly suggest you at the very least print off some of the safety info. our members have written and go over it with him or better yet, have him take a look at this site directly.
I realize that you probably want to surprise him but buying a high powered laser has to be thought of as buying a gun and giving it to someone when they have never owned one before. These are NOT toys even though they sound like they are. There are plenty of people who think they know how to safely handle a gun and then shoot themselves.
I can purchase 3 different color laser pens for $14 that will output up to 30 times the legal limit just as they are. Pens like those are marketed in general as play things but in reality can easily damage the eyes permanently. Can't imagine how many peoples pets have eye damage because they are so readily available.
Again, understand that the reports of lasers being used inappropriately has skyrocketed and the FBI is involved and ready to prosecute the foolish.

On the very plus side of things most guys here couldn't imagine having a wife or girlfriend that would do what you want to do;) If you do follow through and buy him one ABSOLUTELY make him crazy by purchasing 2 sets of safety glasses so you can be a part of the whole experience! Don't do it if you aren't looking for a marriage proposal though Lol

SAFETY FIRST, LAST AND ALWAYS

Pete

Sticky worthy and utterly humbling, Pete! In fact I dreamt about a gun analogy last night. This personal appeal could well prevent another statistic in terms of tragic incidents as well as personal rights for responsible laserists globally.
