Hey everyone.

You don't know how excited I am that I can finally post this. I recently received the CNI 589nm handheld that RHD and I bought together as a mini-group buy a while back (some of you may remember the drama involving my mom and her overprotection). That said: I am so glad that I finally got this: it's a beautiful laser.

So first, the "buy" specs:
Wavelength: 589nm
Power: >30mW
Battery: 18650 Li-ion
Features: Key switch, safety interlock, shutter, 3-second on-delay, "active" LED

So what did I get? Let's let the pictures do the talking!

These pictures perfectly show the color of this beaut. There's no trickery involved here!

Anyway, so you are all probably dying to know how powerful this beast is. Unfortunately, my LPM isn't that accurate (I think it's miscalibrated) so I will go off of what RHD told me he measured it as on his Ophir.

Peak: 100mW !!! (measured on Ophir)
Avg: 89mW !!! (measured on LPM)

Now, I am going to trust those values instead of my readings from my LPM (my LPM gives me readings of a peak of 75mW and an average of around 62mW or so) because mine was hand-calibrated and the absorptive coating has been... "abused."

Nonetheless, I got nearly triple-spec AVERAGE power, with over triple-spec peak, and we paid for >30mW! I'm so glad that I finally got this incredible laser. And I got lucky ;) Mine was the more powerful of the two that RHD got sent!

Divergence?

Beam specs?

Burning capabilities?

Awesome laser with a great color. I wish I had one. But it's so expensive...

Nice review.

That, I can truly say, is an AWESOME laser!

I know that a 589nm laser is bought simply for it's exotic color, but there is one highly scientific analysis that you need to conduct...

First video of 589 match lighting and balloon pop! :D (that I know of at least)

A high powered 589nm ?!?
Somethin' sweet in your hands now.
Be careful with you new baby there...would hate to hear that you suffered an "oops" of some sort.
Looking forward to the better beamshots too.
Way to go there !

Yup ;) If only I had some sort of matches or something, I could try lighting it!

Divergence, by the way, is excellent - probably around 1mRad. That said, I am pretty sure it stays in TEM00, but I can't be certain; the unit is not focusable.

EDIT: Wow, just tried using a loupe and some black plastic... I got a 589nm that will BURN things. It's set to infinity, so it's not going to burn well there, but when it's focused... it'll burn!

That's a nice laser you got there, how about some cool beam shots with a little fog in the air ;)

I really wish I could :\ But I can't do that in my dorm room (the location of all my laser and high-voltage related antics) due to smoke detectors and what not :\
