20mw to 1w is a big jump, you should try something like this
LP 532nm 1mW-150mW and
Laser Glasses - UV to Green Lasers Protection 190-548nm :: Laser Safety :: Dragon Lasers second link needed no exceptions. get 30mw-50mw.
disclaimer:I am not responsible if you you hurt yourself of others.

Not a very good troll. If I were trolling I would at least try to assure the seller that I was a responsible 16-17 year old, or something along those lines.

Heck, I don't even think age matters if you don't have the proper FDA stuff in the USA.

He's only asking basic questions and has minimal requests. Why not just answer with proper information and give him some options based upon his needs with maybe some flavor of what you all think would be a good laser for him to try next.
You can only troll people that allow you to get a reaction. Why feed into the attention?

tsteele did a review on some laser glasses that are perfect for your price range. 7$ and work great.
Cheap Safety Glasses - TESTED
Make sure you buy two so you can play with your friend and dad.

A few members have given you some advice on where to find the laser based upon your specifications. You should look into them and respond with any further requests or questions you might have.

Ok, that's true, BUT it is legally to ship a laser of any kind in The Netherlands, but here i cant trade it...

Simplified, i can get one, but i cant send one.

I love it that it says "trading not allowed". Owning one is a different story.
It is kinda misusing the law, but the law should be taken to the letter.
Plus its a stopid rule anyway.
I do have to say i love it that the netherlands dont have rules about laser scanning savety
I hope they keep that up.

Ok,before you get a 1w laser get laser safety glasses. We can't stop you from buying a 1w laser but we can help you be safe with it. But I will be glad to help you get a low power 532nm as long as you don't hurt yourself or any one with and you show me your laser safety glasses.

Ok, now you also lost my help.

You don´t use your brain or at least did VERY LITTLE research for such a statement.

If you always wear the goggles, a 5mW keychain is going to be the perfect choice for you.

Young 11-year old.
You have a great deal to learn about laser safety before getting a 1 Watt laser.

Yes. Get a 5mW green laser, and learn about laser safety to find out why you need to wear the glasses.
You have to learn the proper time when conditions are safe to remove your safety glasses (when the beam can not reflect back at you [bounce off mirror / glass], outside usually).

Here's a good pair for you: link
They cover almost all laser colors (except red and orange) including IR.

You are too young to own a laser.
I suggest you have your father educate himself on laser safety, purchase safety glasses and a laser and keep it locked up and only let you "use" it under supervision. It is in your best interest to start small. a 50mW green and a 200mW red laser with safety glasses for each (different color glasses for different color lasers).

Lasers are not toys. They can blind you faster than you can blink if the beam hits your eye (including a very fast swipe).

Educate yourself. Read this thread: --> Hit in eye with 1000mw 445nm blue laser

For the last time, I AM NOT STUPID, i am aware of all the dangers,
tough i am young, i know all of it,
but, cant you remember when you wanted something?
I am now having that feeling, i just want one,
and i will always wear safety glasses,
And i was thinking, what is the difference between a 100mw laser and a 1W laser, ok, the 1W is more dangerous, but the 100mw can also hurt you alot and it also can blind you...

The fact a 1w laser is ten times as powerful. And that's like saying what's the difference between a airsoft gun and a desert Eagle.

The bad thing is that the 100mW is probably only half as bright as the 1W and unbelievably less likely to injure your eye.

Based on Sony's safety data sheets on laser safety, I am of the opinion that >500mW is where things turn from pretty dangerous to REALLY dangerous.

Yeah, you can get injured from 100mW, but you also stand a good chance of getting a very temporary injury or avoiding injury altogether unless it is a very direct hit.

At 1 Watt, the odds change radically. Now the same accident will almost certainly cause instant, permanent injury to one, or both of your eyes.

It is funny, when I show friends my lasers they always ask, "What are these FOR?"

I give them a quick star pointer demonstration (Orion and Sirius are up right now) and then I grin and say, "basically they are toys!"

>5mW

I let my 3 and 4 year-olds play with a 3mW (metered by me) 635nm supervised by me or my wife.

It is funny, when I show friends my lasers they always ask, "What are these FOR?"

I give them a quick star pointer demonstration (Orion and Sirius are up right now) and then I grin and say, "basically they are toys!"

Definitely a blind spot in his eye anyway!
And i will still buy a 1W laser...

''For the last time, I AM NOT STUPID, i am aware of all the dangers,
tough i am young, i know all of it, ''
..not strictly true is it, but nonetheless..

Kevin, just do yourself a favour and stop posting 'wanting to buy' type threads.
No-one here in their right mind is going to sell you a Laser (powerful or otherwise).
Stupidity has nothing to do with it, it's your age, pure and simple. When you finally get that through your head you can stop wasting everyone's time.
You can keep saying it, it makes no difference, YOU'RE 11!!

When you started down here you were looking for a laser for your dad. Does he even know you're on here?
The responsibilty of providing this laser you seek should rest with your parents. No one here wants to risk the 'what if...' scenario.
If dad thinks you can handle a powerful laser responsibly and wants to help you get one, get him to come on LPF.

Madman is on a distinguished road
Default Re: Help!!! I can't do my own research!

Ahh I don't mean to interrupt this thread on my first post.

But if he's under 11. And this forum is hosted in the US. Which to my understanding it is. Wouldn't he require proof of consent from a parent even if he's in the Netherlands? I mean the actions are taking place IN THE US, on US servers?

On top of that to the people saying you should coddle to the request of an 11 year old due to the fact he's "only 11" and has a "curiosity". Is akin to him saying HE LOVES MATH AND SCIENCE!! HE JUST CANT BE BOTHERED LEARNING THEM!!!! You're saying he's entitled to do none of the research or work that everyone else here seems to be putting into their efforts just because hes a kid who happens to have a little money to buy a laser? I don't think we should be appealing to his selfish attitude when he clearly doesn't have any responsibility nor does his father if his father isn't even the one attempting to procure the laser for him. So regardless of the how, why, who, what, when and or where of this kid. You're expecting him to learn to be safe with the laser when he won't even bother learning how it works?

And do you know WHY he isn't bothering to learn how it works? Because he can't. He's 11. His brain isn't even fully developed. He has no ability to comprehend the structure of it. On top of that at 11 years old your brain also has no inhibitions. E.g. that shit that tells us it's NOT okay to sell a laser to a 11 year old. Those are the exact things hes missing.

So yeah, j/sin.
