Youre always so polite and friendly to others...
:)
Thank you... nice of you to notice...

The advice you gave to the new kid would be good
advise for yourself so you don't get :banned: by mistake...

why the attacks people?
Have some sense yourselfs?
Be polite....he didnt deserved such a trolling and flaming thread.
I have the thread started on skype and he's a nice kid.

I do agree that kids shouldnt own very dangerous lasers unless they prove they can handle one. i already said it to him.
His father says he can have one. His father knows the riscs, according to the kid, that means he can handle the responsibility. Else the father would have declined.

Finally someone said something. I was going to reply & sacrifice myself to voice an opinion someone else seems to share. First and foremost I agree with everyone who has not helped this kid get a 1W laser because of his age & the lack of responsible use an 11 yr old would likely demonstrate before hurting himself or getting into serious trouble. There's no question there. I am surprised however at how many people here have stooped to the level of an 11 yr old to pester, discourage and outright harass him for expressing his interest and for trying. I know this is a thin line folks, believe me I wouldn't give a kid access to anything like this just like I wouldn't allow booze, cars, older women or guns to fall into hands like this.

But the responses on this thread, my god. Before I'm torn a new one by everyone who disagrees with my point of view can I just suggest this...? Instead of cyberbullying some kid off the forum when you come across something like this, how about trying to educate him with a little less disrespect? Why not try explaining to him that our hobby is an adult one & like many adult things (guns, great example) it's simply isn't recommended or allowed to a pre-teen because of how dangerous it is and how much responsibility is involved. This won't change anything of course, but it might give someone like him the sesnse of mind to walk away & consider doing a lot of reading, learning and some aging before reintroducing himself. Seems now the kid will be banned soon if he's not already.

I don't know, maybe I'm too nice and too naive or maybe I see a different solution to problems like this. It's just sad to see a bunch of mature folks here beat down an 11 yr old for sharing the same interests as we do - just because he's too young. It's just my personal opinion, but I don't think we're helping out here. Instead of helping this kid understand why he shouldn't be using lasers yet in his life we're just pushing him off to find another way to achieve one after he's gone. Again guys, just my .02. I know we're better than this

^^^^^Once again, if dad buys him one, he is just as unintelligent as this kid is.

And if this kid gets a laser I think child protective services should be called because he is in an unfit environment with UNFIT PARENTS.

Dude, you just think that my parents are stupid cuz they grow me a other way than your parents did...

Anybody that tries to help this kid a laser or sells him a laser should definitely be banned IMO. Anybody helping him is hurting LPF.

I seriously can't understand why anybody would be trying to help this kid blind himself?

EDIT: lol, your parents grew you?

That's odd. My parents raised me

Sorry if we were harsh, but I seriously think you have a lot of maturing to do before you own a dangerous device such as a high powered laser. Go grab a 5mW greenie on ebay. Hell even get one from swimminsurfer on here. Have your dad make some fog in the house and it'll look like a 500mW greenie (for a first time laser enthusiast)

Play with that and then maybe in 5 years we'll talk about getting you a high powered laser.

I will not back down though with the point that anybody who sells this kid anything above 5mW on LPF Should be banned because that will ultimately harm the forums.

BTW I got a PM from this kid also, here's what he wrote and here's what I said:

Subject: Do you sell some lasers?
Hello, I am in search of a laser, and i saw that you got alot lasers, so do you have one that is 1W+ for sale???

My reply:

I'm sorry, I dont sell any of my lasers. I build them for myself & keep them in my collection. BTW, I know you are very young - I saw the threads before when you were asking about buying a 1W laser and the responses you got from other people. Don't listen to them & don't let that garbage get you mad.

If you are only 11 as you say you are - it is important to understand that 1W lasers are as dangerous as handguns. No your laser wont kill you, but one simple mistake of dropping it or showing it off to friends and not being careful - you or them could lose your eyesight. This would be terrible for an 11 yr old but believe me it has happened, search google if you think I am wrong.

I'm not trying to lecture you or tell you not to use lasers because you're young. I think you are better off learning how lasers like this are made, how people like me build them and how to use them safely and respectively. I am sorry again about not being able to sell you a laser, I'm a builder and collector. Why do you want a 1W lasers anyways? Do you have any other lasers or would this be your first?

Feel free to msg me whever you have any questions though, I am always happy to help someone out!

^ Shouldn´t go to a MY LASER IS STRONGER debate with your friend.

What I would really recommend to you is a 405nm laser to have fun with fluorescing stuff like I did here for example:
http://laserpointerforums.com/f48/405nm-various-stuff-72829.html#post1049660
http://laserpointerforums.com/f48/few-glasses-magnesium-lasers-65003.html#post933082

AND a ~150mW-200mW 532nm laser with a tight beam for star pointing and maybe having some burning fun. But expect this laser to be very dangerous! You can really hurt people.

Get a goggle from laser2go Protection Glasses for 532nm Green Laser
These would block you against both wavelengths I mentioned above.

For the lasers you should do your own research. Best for the 405nm fun I mentioned above is to get a "supposed" 5mW from Ebay (in most cases they are >40mW)

30-50mw green for visibility at night. But only from your point of view and your friends around you.
Wont be visible for other people unless you aim at their direction, wich is the thing you dont do^^

I see my 20mW pretty good at night.

You might try out this one: 100mW 532nm Handhled Mid-open Green Laser Pointer Pen BGP0019A(1*18650 inclued)

Had this laser some time ago, was very satisfied with it. The price is good as well.

OR shoot forum member lazeerer a PM, he might have a suitable 532nm laser for you, also goggles for it and also maybe a 405nm.

Here is a thread of mine where a few items are listed to have fun with
http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/laser-accessories-you-should-own-49082.html#post671342

ATTENTION: Always carry saftey glasses when burning anything or beaming inside your room.

I agree completely with everything you have said. I did give him a negative reputation point, but it was done to put a red square next to his name so that members had a clear indication that they should not blindly sell a laser to him. If his father wishes to come to the forum and purchase a laser, he can create an account with a clean slate and inform himself of what kind of responsibility he is giving his son. Some kids learn to shoot a gun when they are younger than 11. I believe that, if the guardian of a child is well versed in safety, judges that the child is capable of following the correct procedures and observes the child while he is operating it, there is no problem in buying him a laser.
I do not understand why some people have chosen to call him a "moron", "idiot" or "douche" in the tags. The issue is his age. Perhaps that makes him an "idiot" compared to an adult but what you guys are doing is the equivalent of ridiculing a baby for being unable to speak. He seems more polite and better at expressing himself than most 11 years olds.

@borgqueenx
At times you are credulous to the point of being a danger to yourself and others. Try to employ a bit of scepticism.

EDIT: @jakeGT
I accidentally wrote "comments" instead of "tags". Edited it now.

I skimmed through the thread.

One question.

He's not 18.

Why is he still here? There is no need for this debate.

Seems pretty clear cut.
