Sorry didnt understand that. Have you decided on a host or would just like to use an 18650 battery?

Have you thought of a 300 mW mitsubishi 635? That would go really nicely with your 445 ;)

Those diodes are really expensive, aren't they? Also, I will be selling my 445 to get money for this one. What about new 405 diodes? Also, I want to use a single battery-18650. They are a nice size. I want a color and brightness that will amaze people again like my 445 did.

DTR sells them for $50, which is similar to the 445's. The 500 mW versions are really expensive at $110..

If its too much though, maybe you could contact Laseerer, if youre not already on one of the GB lists;), for a 650 nm 3.8 mm diode. Maybe he has a couple spare....?

These are single mode and can be driven by a single 18650 at a max of 750 mA and should give around 500 mW!!! :D

Edit: Forgot to mention they are only $17! ;)

Ooh that sounds really cool. I just don't think that color will be as impressive in a laser as purple, just because there are so many red lasers out there.

If you want an impressive color, you can't beat the amazing blue you get from the PL450. It's not a crazy powerful burner, but the most beautiful shade of azure. It is my absolute favorite diode and I truly believe everybody needs one in their collection. ( also for sale by DTR )

As to a more powerful 405... DTR did some testing on the newer 14x drive. You can see the results here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f38/14x-blu-ray-burners-73191.html

Those 450s are looking pretty good. They just don't seem to have a bright enough beam or enough power for me, even though the beam specs look pretty good. How are the beam specs for 12x diodes? Are they multimode diodes?

The 450 will always appear brighter mW to mW over any 405.

as far as i know all 5.6mm 405s are single mode.

How powerful can I get a 450 at its max current? I believe a 405 can get to 750 on a good day; can 450s match that?

I am mostly interested in beam visiblilty, thank you a lot for that post! I mostly want to compare the beam visibility to my M140@1.8A(~2W). I think that 450 sound great. I'll have to use that for my next build.

You won't be sorry. It is the most beautiful color of all the readily available diodes.

I have to admit a bit of objectophilia for the PL450

If you want beam brightness, nothing beats the 532nm green lasers.

I think a powerful green laser will be way too hard for me to build, evn though I think it will be the coolest. from what I hear, this 450 won't disappoint me.

If you want a direct green diode, you have to get in line... I mean literally. Ask Will to put you on the waiting list. :D

I don't want a direct green as they are right now. --not enough power. I would build a dpss but I don't really want to go down that road. too expensive for any greens as they are for anything I would want And it would be way too hard for me to do. If I were to get a red or green, it would need to be ridiculously powerful to make up for the fact that they are the mos common colors and I want to be different.
