12x Murder Fund! + Graph!

Re: 12x Murder Fund! (Complete!)

550mW sounds good to me also

If we start out with a mW measure instead of a mA measure, how will that effect the periodic re-plotting of the diode?

Peace,
dave

Why not hook the diode up to a power meter, find what ma gives you 550mw and leave it at that ma? Doesnt necescarly have to be an even number...

What I mean is, 550mW at the start of the experiment, then he'll record that current, and keep it constant after he re-plots. It's harder in this case to pick a current going in, because its efficiency is different than the 8x.

Re: 12x Murder Fund! (Complete!)

I guess we will have to wait and see, how long till this experiment gets going? Are we still waiting on the 8x to die?
I know someone has it going at 305 ma, but im not sure what its putting out. Well below 500 mw for sure.
Hmm... As far as I know, anything up to 350mA is a good running current for an 8x.
Anything past that is a bargain.

I'm on a blackberry :P

How you can surf internet on a blackberry ? ..... i mean, where the hell is the screen and keyboard, there ?

..... j/k

Re: 12x Murder Fund! (Complete!)

very clever... :D
Blackberrys suck if ur actually trying to read anything!!!!

Re: 12x Murder Fund! (Complete!)

And they are super slow!
They don't even load the pages all the way.

Here are the Zero Hour plots of our 12x murder candidate:

Or so i thought.

I gave the new Torture Chamber a dummy ride over the weekend, and i found a problem, that would have disabled the counters with time (the backup time recorders would still have kept doing their job, but obviously i want the main parts to work - that's why i bought and assembled them).

The expensive high current PSU i got to power the torture chamber with two diodes at once, turned out not to be regulated properly, and blew the capacitors on the counter supply, cos they were only rated for 16V.

It's all fixed up, the entire thing can take anything from 10-30V now, but until i get a better PSU, i'll have to power the Torture Chamber off my Lab-PSU, just to be safe.

In any case, if we want to test 550mW, the current required is 389mA.
At 400mA, the power of this 12x is 559mW.

Boh seem like interesting steps to test.

Question is, how far do we go? At around 400mA, i feel like i'll have to monitor it very closelly during the first few hours of the experiment, just to be on the safe side. But i've been wrong about this with the first 8x.

I'd love nothing more but to be wrong here too...

P.S. I've noticed some peculiar things about these 12x's, that don't make much sense, but i'll explain more about this in Dave's 12x thread...

For what it's worth, one vote for 400mA here.

Re: 12x Murder Fund! (Complete!)

Igor;

390 ma would be the same level of overdrive as the 8X that lasted more than 150 hrs. ....

From Nichia BR chart on 12X pulse power current = 260ma ...

times the 150% overdrive level used on 8X = 390ma.

400ma would be 154% of pulse power.

410ma would be 158% of pulse power.

420ma would be 162% of pulse power.

P.S. Your 12X diode power level looks a little hotter than I calculated from the Nichia 12X data charts.
