The only difference I can see between the two sleds is that the beam circulaizer lens that is in front of the diode in the 203 is gone in the 205!!

There are some differences in the drives but the sleds are the same **except for the lens right in front of the diode**

There are some VERY similar markings on the printed circuit as well.

The diodes are visually identical!!

The red diodes are the same as well.

Don't jump the gun on the 12X!!!! It may be the same diode as the one in the Pioneer 8X.

I do NOT know if I will get to testing the diode this weekend or not.

So how did the burning speed go up from the 8X to the 12X?

But remember the 4x vs. 6x debacle from that one groupbuy? The sleds were identical, except one tiny heatsink. MAYBE the 8x sled already had enough heatsinking, and they popped a new diode in.

Or maybe it's exactly the same, and the drive company was leaving the power turned down on the 8x so they could use the same product all the way through 2 cycles, thereby maximizing profits.

Much remains to be seen.

I say yank it out, set it at 360ma and see how it compares to the 8x's you set a 360ma on output. Or torture all of us that are on the edges of our seats waiting to see if these things are what everyone hopes that they are.
 
This is exciting and suspenseful. I hope this story has a happy ending.
 
I would bet that it is a different diode. If they could have done 12x 6 months ago when the 8x drives were out, they would have done it and beat everyone else to the chase.

It just doesn't make much sense, from a manufacturing standpoint, to make a whole new sled for 12x. Pop a stronger diode in, write some new drivers, bingo bango!!

I bet it's a stronger diode :san:
 
Dave your last post was like 1 and a half hrs ago....What's taking so long.....OK I'm calming down…no, no I’m not. I got’a know!!!…OK I'll go make something metal . That always calms me down… This must be what a crack head feels like just before they score. I wonder if it’s the good “stuff”. Or better than the other good “stuff” lol
 
woa, I hope this isn't the same diode.

BTW how much did you pay for this bad boy?
 
Have you looked at them in a microscope? I don't know much about bond wires and die sizes, but some of the guys on laserchat said that the die should be bigger on the 12x (if it really is a different diode that is)
