hey guys , can some 1 tell me how the x-drive uses its "overheat protection"

does it detect & shut off ?
does it detect & output a lower current ?

Jerry is right, you should also PM LAZEERER. But I'll tell you that most IC's that drive laser diodes and LEDs that I've seen will lower current. I have seen some that shut down or restart, but I'd lean toward the first.

I think that Clif at Cajunlasers sells the X-drive so you might also contact him.

I have at least one laser with an X-drive in it, but I've never encountered overheat so I'm not sure how that is implemented. If I HAVE encountered overheat and just didn't know it, then it was definitely lower current and not shut down! ;)
