It is a long shot, but I thought I would put it out there.

I am looking for a working Argon Ion laser with power supply. I don't want to bother with water cooling or 3-phase input power, so that may limit me to something in the 10 to 250mW range. I prefer something over 100mW, but I'll consider anything reasonably priced.

  • >100mW output
  • 110/220VAC input
  • Air Cooled
  • Multi-line (488 + 514)
  • Argon mixtures considered
  • US Domestic Shipping (or pickup)

For those finding this post at some point in the future, I'll still be looking, unless I edit this post, otherwise. Send me PM.

If you have 220V available, I can put you into a 107mW Multi-line for $400, plus shipping (Uniphase; 2214-40ML)
[or you may want to just drive down to SoCal (91744) to pick it up ;) ]

All you will need, is to either buy or build (or have built) a remote for it
We can jump it to make it run, but you are going to want to control it

Here is a link to the least expensive OEM (stock) remote I have seen
Uniphase Cyonics Laser Remote Interface 2500 Working | eBay
You can build one for MUCH less than that

Peace,
dave

I think I've seen remotes like the one shown in the eBay listing on the sides of the power supply (or was it the laser head)

Long ago, I had a >200mW wired for the 220v Clothes Dryer outlet in my condo. We could make the lights in the living room fluctuate in brightness by cranking the output power back and forth on the laser. It also heated the room, nicely, during the winter. It had a bare DB-25 with a few wires jumped on it.

I may have to give your Argon a sniff, next time I'm down that way. Me mum lives out towards Indio.

Edit: I wonder if you're talking about the JDSU-2214 in this post:

The laser head pictured is so tiny! Although, that >200mW I had in the late 1980s, the tube itself was about that size. But the whole head was much larger.

>100mw might be a challenge on 120V single phase. i have an 85mw multi-line and it draws about 1500W from single phase 120 at full power.

Sent you a PM. I have a Lasermed (Reliant 250) do not have a power meter but the laser runs on 110V and outputs more than 100MW. 250.00 +15 for shipping to Santa Rosa.

Cool! What wavelength(s) does it produce?
